What to do with an impaired dog?

I don´t mean those dogs that can´t move their back legs.
I mean a dog that can´t move at all.
Some years ago I learned about a little dog, a poodle, that fell from a chair. The fall broke his back and he couldn´t move at all.
I personally think the dog should be put down.
When a person is in this situation he/she can still find a goal in life.
We have our intelligence and curiosity. We always want to learn new things.
But a dog wants to run, to play. I don´t see how a dog can be happy this way.
What do you think?

That is so sad. That dog really should be put down. I would never do that to an animal. If they cannot get around on their own and all they can do is lay there, that isn't a life.

I know dogs love to run and play but I also think they have alot of love to give regardless of whether they can run and play. Would I personally have it put to sleep...No, I'd work around the disability and love the little dog for all he's worth while he's here. Some ppl can handle a situation like that and some can't...it's really a personal decision.

I understand where you are coming from Daelin, but at the same time you have the think of the owners point of view. Maybe this dog was bought on an occasion that was dear to the owner or the family. Maybe the owner wanted something to take care of, no matter what. Some dog owners feel like their dogs are their children, could you honestly say that you would put your child down because the quality of his/her life would not be all that great? Maybe the owner is very religious, and would rather put it in God's hands instead. There are a lot of reasons why an owner would or wouldn't put a dog down, and many reasons for and against it. I really am on the fence about this situation, and don't think I could make a decision to kill something, because of its current quality of life.

Hi Daelin,
If it was my dog, I would have mixed feelings because I know that it would be best to put them down, but I also would have an emotional attachment to that dog. So, emotionally, I don't want to let go, but logically, I know I would have to.
