I've been thinking about this question that what if you are the President of your country what will you do to help your people? What would you contribute to your country so the people won't forget you? What's the first thing that you will do if you are the President of your country? Tell me why.

I wouldn't want to be president! ugh but if I were, the first thing I would do is to enforce our borders more. More border patrols, more money and benefits for those who work the borders. Homeland security would be given this as their first and main priority. I believe there is not enough being done to decrease the numbers of illegal aliens in this country. I want people to be able to come here if they follow the proper channels. It is way too much of a strain on our healthcare system and many other aspects for us to continually pay for and care for these illegals.

If I were elected President of the United States my first act would be to get our troops out of Iraq. I would leave a small group of consulting military to help the Iraqi, secondly I would offer aid but no further involvement in peace keeping. The second act I would work on would be healthcare for all, I would work with the Senate and the Congress to fund a universal healthcare system available to all uninsured Americans.

I am from India and the Indian president does not have any power to taken monumental decisions, which can change the destiny of the county. Our constitution bestows all power on the Prime Minister and the Parliament. So I will take your response in its true spirit and give my views as to what I will do if I ever became the Prime Minister.
The first thing I would do if I became the PM would be to abolish the system of multi-party democracy and instead introduce bi-party democracy. Too many parties in India are breeding corruption, ineptitude, greed, horse-trading and general decline in the morals of politicians. Every politician worth his salt knows that if they can hobnob with the right people at the right places, they can start their own party, win a handful of elections and enjoy the tremendous benefits of a parliamentarian. All big parties have some ethics which they try to follow and when there ethics don’t suit any unscrupulous criminal type politician, they just leave and float their own party with the help of money and muscle-power. Having only to parties would have seriously put an end to these practices and corruption in India would have reduced to a great extent.
Secondly, if I became the PM, I would have banned student-politics till the undergraduate level i.e. till colleges. Young children enter college at the very impressionable age of 18yreas when all the world seems to be at your feet and ideals of revolution the only solution to the many problems around us. Dishonest political parties tap on these gullible forces and make them work for winning elections in colleges and give them cheap money as incentives. Turf war is also extremely prevalent in colleges, classes are banned for days on some pretext or the other and young students waste their career by running after cheap fame, dirty politics and instant heroism. Parents save each and every cent to send their children to colleges and this is what political parties do with them. Student politics can only be introduced at the university level when students become a little more mature with age and are in a position to decide if they want to join politics or go for career and academics.

I would start right away on health care reform. That is the biggest issue that I myself have to deal with and I know there are thousands upon thousands of other people who are having the same issues. My doctors keep sending me for tests and medicare will not cover them. I have been prescribed medicine and Medicare will not cover it. Or they want to send me to a specialist and again medicare will not cover it. If a doctor thinks something is necessary it should be covered.

If I were president of my country, I would try to bring about a way to make every person responsible for their actions. I am not talking about a police state, but rather to do what is right, good and decent is rewarded and to harm ,use and take with out working, is punished.Yes I know there are people that are truly not able to actually do physical labor, but there are other forms of contributing to the state. There has to be a way to get the poor out of poverty and into a self productive world. there has to be a way to rid ourselves of the vermin that are a plague on the world, right now they sell dreams and alleviate pain so they thrive on others needs.
And yes there are those that truly believe that the world owes them a living and want the check delivered to the door. They would find out the only living they get a check from is the one they work at.
This is of course all wishful thinking, and because we have greedy lazy people that have no intention of every working for a living, and right now our country doesn't stop them this will continue to happen. good discussion

The first thing I would do if elected President is to begin to pull our troops out of Iraq and harms way. This war has become nothing but politics pure and simple. Most Americans - myself included - are not even sure why we are over there anymore, let alone why we were there to start with. Is is oil? Terrorism? Bush trying to stay in office? I don't think anyone knows anymore. I also don't think we have or will accomplished anything. I also think that it would be a good and just thing to start an investigation on just exactly why we went into Iraq, and why we are still there. The American people have a right to know WHY their troops are dying. At the same time I think that there need to be some major changes in foriegn policies and an attempt made to improve the opinions and feelings about our country world wide. The focus needs to be moved back home - work more on issues that matter here in the US and less on trying to solve other countries problems. We have to solve our problems, let them solve theirs as well.

Tell everyone to stop complaining and calm down! There are too many people suing everyone just to sue people, too many people complaining about everything. I know it sounds retarded, but believe me, with everyone calming down a bit, it would make this world a little bit better.
