My daughter is about to start her first day at pre-school.
The notice they sent my said to pack a healthy snack.
I am at a loos, I went today and boucht her a nice cup, so I dont have to buy those expensive juice boxes, plus less waste is better for the environment. Each child can create an enormous amount of trash with these thins. Anyway, I digress!
I have trouble with this one, a sanwich some fruit?
I know I always threw out my lunch at school and begged kids for money to buy cookie! No wonder the all hated me, any way again I digress.
I really want to pack things she will actuall want to eat, but healthy and not junk, how can I be sure she will eat them if i am not there to push?
Any ideas?

Well try making a nice fruit cake - it will be something she will eat because it's cake but make it with fat free or reduced fat items & plenty of healthy fruit!
Try buying juices with no added sugar or preservatives, you could even try buying fresh fruit & juicing them yourself? Just throw it in the food processor & that would be a nice treat!
You could try those hazelnut spreads in her sandwiches - they're not bad for children but they still taste like they should be bad! Hence why children are happy to eat them!
I'm not sure if your daughter likes fruit but fun fruits would encourage her to eat them - grapes, strawberries, raspberries & stuff like that!
You could also make chocolate chip cookies using on fat free items & low fat chocolate - just so she knows it has chocolate in it without it being super unhealthy for her!
Good Luck!

Oh, if you have a healthy dinner the night before that your daughter enjoys - try making a little extra so she can take it with her for lunch the next day - then you know she'll eat it & you'll know it's healthy!
Left overs from a healthy dinner are always a good thing!

Ooh! Hazlenut spread!! I love that Idea!! I have not asked but alot of shools wont allow Peanut butter because of other children with allergies!! Strange, when I ws a kid and they had allergies they just didnt eat it! As usual though Im all over the map.
I was thinking of trying to make my own health bars for her, I checked out the all natural ones ath the store they were like 5 dollars!!
I like the juice idea, but when she was a baby I juice apples for her and the oxidized so quickly. Can fruit fresh be used in fruit juice I wonder?
Thank you I will buy some yummy spread for her to day, I can spread it on bread or give it to her to dip apple and bannanna slice! Stellar!
Thanks

cookies, chocolate drinks or juice are the good snacks for you to bring them with. well also with the fruits like apples, grapes and oranges are good for them. for you to be sure that they are really eating all the food you are bringing on with them is to ask their teacher or friends. i am sure that they will tell the truth what they have seen from your kids at school. or maybe you can just drop by at school suring their break and try to see or figure it out if they are really eating all the snack they brought with them. you know

There are all kinds of things you can make. Does she like granola? You can do home made granola bars or even cookies made with granola. So it seems like a sweet treat but it packs a nutritious punch, especially if it's got fruit and nuts in it.
My son loves the dried fruit boxes (like boxes of raisins) that Disney makes (one of many Disney food products infiltrating the grocery store). They have apples, raisins, apricots and cranberries in them. Actually, I quite like them myself.
You can make popcorn and season it with something other than butter and salt (a little parmesean cheese goes a long way for example). My son loves popcorn, I just make it myself instead of using microwave.
Will she eat fresh veggies without pushing? I know when I was a kid I loved carrot sticks. Jif sells little peanut butter cups now that can be sent with some celery sticks for dipping.

Yes I was thinking carrots, maybe with some ranch tubs.
Rasins too, you know i went up and down the grocery isles, with my mouth open and my eyes wide and I didnt even think, Rasins!!
I did buy granola, but the chunks dont seem large enough to deem sending as a snack with out milk.
Wonderful ideas. Its nice to be able to brainstorm with others. Thank you

I checked you profile, you are young yet!!
Do everything for yourself now, because once you have kids, it all for them!!
In a good way though.
THank you for your response!

Hi HomeCooked, my oldest daughter(7) has had to carry nutritious snacks since she first started school. Here are some of the things that I have sent for her. In my supermarket in the produce dept. they have this box of individually wrapped apple slices with about 8-10 slices in each pack and about 10 packs to the box. They are great to send to school. Also, I have sent the Munchies Kids Mix. It is like trail mix but tailored to kids. All three of my kids love it and it is healthy. It is usually on the chip isle. I have also sent a ziploc bag of miniature marshmallows. They are fat free and taste sweet. Another thing I have sent is homemade cheese sticks like you get at pizza hut. I used homemade dough with 2%milk, and used low-fat cheese, and fat-free pizza sauce, and sent a little cup of Light Ranch Dressing to dip them in. She really loves those. There are numerous other snacks that I have sent, but here are a few to give you an idea. Hope it helps.
