Romans or Spaniards?

there have been a debate here at work whether which civilization during there respected eras have made the greatest conquest?
did the spaniards conquered more lands and nations than the romans?
based on total land area conquered? who do you think have made the greatest conquest?
of course we couldnt compare the technological advances they have made since it is of different area.
how about literary advancement? who have made the greatest advancement to literature?

romans i beleive have done more with regards to literrature, if you would see right now what the spaniards have tried to do was lost but the romans continue to progress, especially within the film industry .,poetry and the arts plus as a filipino the spaniards have done so much damage and has destroyed our cultural heritage, we still blame them for many errors in the past.
