Do you what home improvement shows? If so, how often? After whatching them do you get inspired to go create something? I do, and I love it. It may take me a few days to get started but if I'm really moved by an idea I'll chase it..

I can sit and watch a string of television shows if they involve homes, decorating or real estate LOL and I'm not really a tv watcher to start with. I find that, lately, I still enjoy decorating and gardening shows but, even more so, I enjoy watching "Sell This House" or some of the house-flipping ones (of which there are now many!). I like Richard and the Trademark Properties people from "The Real Deal" / "Real Estate Pros". I actually find that I learn more from those types of shows because they show the benefits of making certain changes and point out things that prevent one's home from looking its best. There's also a show called "Great Taste, No Money" which is good for highlighting how just rearranging a room and adding simple, inexpensive pieces can make such an impact.

I agree with you! You HAVE to have the money to back it up! The biggest mistake that people seem to make in flipping is when they totally "over-plan" on what jobs should be done and then they panic because that first mortgage payment is coming due and they haven't completed the flip. I forget which one of the shows it is but they have a professional that walks through each house with the people doing the flip and she tells them if their plans and ideas are sound... I am constantly amazed when she tells them, for example, "There is no NEED to rip out the entire bathroom! Just do this, this and this to make it more valuable" and then, as soon as she leaves, they are taking a sledgehammer to the room!! It's critical to take the advice of people who know more than we do and, like you said, outsource the things that are over our heads. I would love to try just one flip in my lifetime, if I could be sure I had the money to do it :) :)

Oh for sure, Romie! :) I think these kinds of shows are GREAT for giving us ideas that we can accomplish on our own in our homes (like paint techniques, craft projects) and also teach us the things that we should really avoid, even if we think they "look" easy but probably need a professional. Ever watch on "Sell This House" or "Trading Spaces" and see the "art projects" they do and think to yourself "that's an art project?!!?!" I always think things have to be harder than they seem LOL I mean, I saw one where the whole thing was just buying some cheap canvases and using a cup/glass of some sort, dipped in paint, to make a geometric "painting" of circles in different colors. I admit I was expecting it might look a bit tacky -- but, after hanging a set of three, side by side, it looked very pretty! Something like that can be done in a matter of minutes, less drying time. I need to learn to simplify the things I try ;) How about you? What have you been inspired to try, based on a tv show? Any major successes (or... *gulp*... disasters)?

Oh, I am addicted to HGTV. I love Decorating Sense and Decorating on a Dime. I have tried some I were not successful, but I keep trying.

Yes, I like to watch home improvement and craft shows on TV. I rarely do the projects myself because I don't own the place I"m living in, but it's fun to daydream.
