I believe in karma. Or "that which you send out comes back to you threefold".
Sometimes that can be served in the "eye for an eye" fasion, sometimes it appears that it hasn't been served at all, but I believe that in any case it is served.
I also believe that there is nothing so bad that some good does not come from it.

I would tend to agree with you-especially the last line of your post. While I don't believe everything happens "for a reason", you can always learn something from any event or situation, good or bad. You just have to look hard enough.

Sounds more like vengenance the way you describe it then justice. I think there is a time for justice and a time for mercy. You can overplay either. Finding the right balance is a hard decision that each person must debate and conclude for themselves.

I tend to be a pacifist, so although I believe that if you commit a crime, you do the time, my ideals tend to align with yours. The "cruel and unusual" portion of the criminal justice system, I believe, has been enacted for a reason.
