Why we are going to learn oracle & SQL?

oracle is now one of the big tycoon in IT they took over Java,JD Edwards,people Soft & n no of technologies & expanding time by time!

I imagine people would learn Oracle and SQL to advance their careers or to get a job that requires you to have those skills. Not sure why you would want to learn those skills otherwise unless you generally have a burning desire to be an Oracle or SQL guru :)
