Alot of people park on the street even when they have a driveway to park in. I know some people don't have a driveway and it can't be helped, but those that do, I think they should have to park in the driveway..We have buses coming up our hill now with school going on. There is a high school and a grade school up there now. It is hard for the buses to get past the cars in the street..I don't think this is right..
Do you think they should have to park in the driveway?...The streets aren't that wide to begin with and parking cars on either side could be dangerous....

as you have narrow streets I do think they need to park in driveway when they have one. who in the world wants to walk all that way from car to house not me lol.
Then we have people that have more cars than they can parkin driveway and park on the side of the road need to get rid of someofthem .
We only put a car on the street if One has to get out and is comeing back soon but then to we try to get it off the street and park behind the other cars we have 4 cars / pickups and we juggle them around lol

I don't know why someone would want to walk all that way either..I only use the street to move my son't car so we can get our van out, then we put his car back in the driveway..

You should take it up with your Town Manager regarding the issue. Often times signs are posted to restrict parking during a certain time of the day. This helps with safety and the flow of traffic. It sounds like that may be the solution to the problem in your area.
Yesterday I encountered a few cars that were parked haphazardly on the side of the road. One was pulled into the driveway of a home and was blocking the sidewalk and hung out into the street. People really haven't a clue.

We will need to call someone because it isn't safe. We have double or triple the traffic now with the grade school just being built and all the high school students who drive to school. I can't even get out of my driveway at certain times because of the buses, which is okay..I either leave early or wait till they are done dropping off or picking up...

This one strikes a chord with me because I was injured in an accident caused by bad parking. A van parked on the pavement gave the effect of a blind corner and a car hurtled into us as it was overtaking parked vehicles, effectively it was on our side of the road.
I do believe in live and let live and obviously there has to be flexibility but I think the most sensible thing is that if you are leaving your vehicle for a long period of time you should park off road if you can, but if you are just nipping into the house to collect something or to have a quick cup of tea, then I suppose it should be left on the road in case some enterprising person decides to park in front of your driveway, blocking you in.

I am sorry to hear that you were injured because of someone else's thoughtlessness.
I can understand just stopping in real quick like you said...Blocking driveways is a very bad thing to do..I just don't understand the way some people think..

No-one does that on my street we all have double driveways and only visitors park on the street. I doesn't make sense to me me to park further away from my home.

I think that they should have to park in their driveway. If i lived somewhere like that i would definitely not park my car on the street because i would be afraid that someone would hit it. I mean what if someone cant get past? We have a lot of people that does that around here and theres sometimes just no room to get through. Its very annoying.

I do agree, if they have a driveway then it should be used for their vehicles. It is very annoying and can be very dangerous.

Yeah we have that problem here, except in my neighborhood if you don't park in your driveway and you do park on the street, you get a ticket for it. Now if the driveway is full you won't, but if it's empty, oh yeah. I think it's fair for the reasons you mentioned, that and it's stupid to park on the street when you don't need to.

I think getting ticketed would be a good idea..I don't want to park on the street for fear of being hit..I don't need to but I wouldn't live where I couldn't park in the driveway. My neighbor got hit last year because her van was on the street..

We park our car on the street most of the time. We park the truck in the alley behind our house (no one else uses it, it only goes behind our house, and one other house that someone lives in.) We don't have a drive way, yet, though. It's one of the things that we plan on doing next summer. Until then, I will continue to park on the street, because I don't want my 19 month old to walk through the ditch that we have back by the alley. Plus the street is closer to the house, so it makes it easier for me, since I usually have groceries or something when I'm the one driving.
When I lived in base housing, we parked on the street sometimes. We used our drive way, but it was only big enough for two cars, and for a while we had a third that my husband was working on. We had to park across the street, since you could only park on one side.
Where I live now, you can park on either side of the road. But the town is really small, we don't even have our own school. Where I live, I never see any cars unless they are going to and from my neighbor's house. We live pretty much on the corner, at the end of the road. There is a mobile home park you can get to by staying on my road, but it becomes a dirt road there, so most people prefer to go to it by using the paved street two streets over instead. So I don't really worry about my car getting hit.

I can understand you parking the way you do. If you don't have a drive way then you have to do the best you can...Being where you are you don't have to worry about traffic which is nice for you..

Our street is the next one over from the high school and the buses use our street to pull in the front of the school plus the out of town buses for the games so parking is packed if it's a home game.We have a drive, for one car, but also have to use the street for the other. The buses have a hard time plus other cars coming opposite ways only on game nights. So yes both sides allow parking but we try not to on Friday nights.

That must be really hectic..If you can't use your driveway because there isn't enough room that is understandable..It is just the people who use the street and they have a long empty driveway sitting there.

I always thought that the reason for buying a house with a drive way is so that you have a place to put your car that is out of the street. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that is the whole idea with driveways, lol. Maybe these people just need the whole concept explained to them? Or for a bus to ram into their car before they figure that... gee, golly, gosh maybe just maybe they should put their cars where they belong?

I know what you mean. I don't make payments on my van to have it rear-ended by a bus or whatever. I know my ex neighbor didn't want to walk the extra 10 feet to the house so she parked on the street. Her van was hit. How stupid is that. Pure lazy if you ask me. Then she had the nerve to complain about it..

Hello Feona1962,
We are facing the same problem here *sighs* It happens almost every where here as long as you can call it a road, a street or a lane and sometimes it really makes me irritated a lot! I think those kind of drivers should use their common sense and don't expect others to read what they have in their mind or act selfishly like themselves. Some of the drivers love to block right in front of your car and expect us to pull the car for them as they already made it easier for us by pulling down the handbrake. Double parking is another major problem here and I am telling you, some of the drivers even have the heart to scold us back when we tell them they are wrong!

If i didn't have a garage I would probably park on the street. My driveway is just too steep. Course if my house were designed with no garage the drive way probably wouldn't be so steep. :) It sounds like the city needs to make those areas no park zones, at least during school hours.

I would be scared to park on a steep hill. I am hoping they will get out here and post some signs...
