Well, I live in a country where there really is no public radio, or many talk show radios going on here. So the place I got hooked on Public Radio is an odd one. Yes, it the game, grand theft auto. In all of the series, there is always at least one Radio Station that was just chattering and it was public radio. Of course in the game, it was all just funny and untrue, but so much fun to listen to, but actually most public Radios are like that truly. In Vice city, it was VCPR and in GTA San Andreas it was the chitter chatter of people talking about silly issues on WCTR that kept me entertained throughout the game, I think that was the one of the best parts of the game too. I just recently got into listening to some of them on the Internet, I found some preset tunes on Windows media player, and I quite enjoyed listening to people rant about nothing at all, and secretly wishing I could do that too. I guess it's one of my dream jobs, to just talk for a living. I do love to hear myself speak, but I realized that I enjoyed listening to random people speak on this Public Radios as well. So what about you? Do you listen to public radio? How did you get hooked into it?

Well, as long as there is something. I do enjoy talk shows too, but nothing local, they make them so boring that I would shoot myself if I watched it long enough.

I enjoy National Public Radio (NPR). It's an oasis of sanity and intelligence, it seems to me. I recently bought a Sony walkman radio, so that I could listen in places other than the car. It's been great to scan the airwaves, finding random cool stuff. This recent interest was piqued by a book called "Radio On", by Sarah Vowell, in which she keeps a radio listening diary for a year (1995, it's an old book). I recommend that book highly to those that enjoy the radio. Finally, the actress that does the voice of one of the GTA San Andreas radio DJs was temp'ing for a while at my previous company (Mary Lou, I think was the name of the DJ in the game). How's that for a brush with greatness?

Actually the DJ's name is Mary-Beth Maybell. And btw. I find the coolest stuff on the local college stations.

"Radio on", sounds good, I might look for it online. Yeah, Mary Beth Maybell, the K-Rose DJ, I remember that station was all country music, I never listened to that station that much, since my sister really doesn't like country music and she would constantly bug me to change it, but since it's such a huge game I got a chance to listen to all of the radio stations completely. Yeah, I guess College radio stations must be good, young minds speaking their mind, so to speak. I wonder if I can get any college radio stations online.

Actually my most frequented radio stations, in GTA SA were K-Dst, Radio X and the most was WCTR. I guess I just stuck with the rock stations, but in Vice City I loved listening to Emotion 98.3, I just loved that Fernando Martinez!

No I don't listen to public radios. I think it's because either I would listen to my CDs or I would need to have that total silence in the house so that I could write or work on my own stuff. I cannot have "sound" and work at the same time (it's my weakness). Besides, the public radio here has nothing really interesting and therefore I am not interested in what they say.

Well, I have to have some form of media no matter what I'm doing. Even when I'm practicing the guitar, my TV is on. I guess that's my weakness.

*laughs* No, that's not your weakness, I think that's a good thing to multi-task. I can't but I wish I could. Like I am typing here now but my mom has the TV on and sometimes I am confused about what I am typing! Ah!

Well yeah, that's happened to me too. But not with the TV ever. More if I'm listening to the public radio and really listening to what they're saying and at the same time typing a my lot discussion. It's not that bad, but sometimes the words get confused.

Well, that's as good as any reason to listen to the radio. I always wanted to be a DJ, but not the regular music playing kind, I like to talk. Maybe since it's a "public" radio, I could start it on my own, ha ha.

I listen to public radio yes. But in the past I did more. Nowadays I often don't listen more than.. maybe an hour - I really have no idea why.. I'm talking about "public radio" from MY country! Wondering what you mean with "talk show radio". Since I *know* the internet, which is already 11 years, I listen to radio stations which are online. Mostly from other countries like Canada and New Zealand. I like the music and they often play songs people will know here some time later and I like to be "up to date" *lol* No... I guess I'm not such a big fan of the music our radio stations play.. also the topics aren't that interesting.. dunno.. lol

Well I guess talk show radio has different talk shows and don't play music at all. But one good thing about regular public radio is that you can discover new music which is the best part.

Wow, shows how much I listen to the radio. I've never even heard of Public Radio. Though thanks to you mentioning the Grand Theft Auto example I know what you are talking about. I always hated that stuff on the game though, mostly because it got repetive if you played the game for along time. I'm sure its probaly better in real life though.

Yeah, of course, but then if you played GTA long enough all the radio stations got repetitive, and you'd pretty much hear it all.. The game can be over 20 hours minimum, just with the game missions, and yet I think the music would be less than 5 hours, so I'm sure it would get repetitive less than half way through the game. But still I found myself hearing it over and over again.

I like NPR and maybe two FM stations, but that is about it. I think FM stations can play the same music too much so I avoid them as much as I can.

Well, yeah, there is only so much music they can play before they get repetitive. The thing I don't like here in radio stations is that they have the same songs every three hours, but just with different DJs.

I do listen to radio stations here locally when I on the bus or in office using my player. I do not listen to internet radio as it takes up the bandwidth and slows down everybody in the network.

Well, I use my PC at home so I don't have to worry about that, although yeah, it does make everything else slower, but then it's not like I have to be anywhere, so makes no difference to me.

Yes, but not that much. I am more into metal, progressive rock and guitar music so there isn't much programs that play these types of music, and hence radio isn't too attractive in my opinion. But internet radio, there do exist channels which will play these type of music all day and hence I do listen at times, and do end up discovering new bands and such which is great for both myself and the bands. It's a win win situation in the end.

Yeah, it's true, there's a much better chance of finding a station made just for you online, than in the local stations. I too am getting addicted to internet radio these days.
