Do You Think God Goes By Different Names?

Some believe that the entity they call 'God' is the one and only deity. Others' belief systems allow room for the idea that God may have different names in different cultures, and that possibly the Christian God is the same as the Islamic or Jewish God or maybe even the God of the Native Americans or the Gods of the Hindus. What do you think? Does any one religion have a lock on heaven? How do you know? How can other people outside of that religion know?

Until they finally reach the other side they can't know. Its pointless to try to sway someone to your beliefs because there's no more proof that your right than they are. Wouldn't it be amusing when everyone reaches the other side & realize its not the christian god, buddah, kernenos or whoever the modern religions believe in? Odin standing at the gates saying NOPE to all these religious fanatics who've wanted to fight to prove their belief over someone elses would be funny. Believe what you want & let others do the same.

*laughs* I know quite a few Asatru who would be thrilled to read your post. =P What the heck do you mean by "kernenos" by the way? I'm wondering if the it's the Celtic "Cernunnos" that you mean, but if that's the case it would seem kind of strange to put that as a modern religion when you're speaking of Odin as not modern. Not trying to be mean, just curious! =)

Hi tutor1235, In the Bible he does have different names, but it is more like this: Robin(1 name) is a teacher(2nd name) and a mother(3rd name). He has names for his different ways of existing.. The NT (Christian) is a continuation of the OT (Jewish) making it the same G♥d. The g-d of Islam is not a continuation, but a completely different book call the koran. The Native Americans worshiped the creation, not the creator..The Hindus, I can't remember what it is they worship.. If a person has a sincere relationship with G♥d, then anyone from the outside that relationship will see there is a difference.

Whether they like it or not, Jews, Christians and Muslims all worship the same God of Abraham. As for the question of the thread starter, there are those people who believe in one God, but the names of the "lesser" deities in other cultures are an aspect of that God. Other people believe in one God and one Goddess, the perfect couple. In Christianity, the Holy Spirit would be considered the Holy Mother, Mother of the Universe, ect. The Holy Spirit in that aspect would complete the divine family of Father, Mother and Son.

That's funny, I happen to follow a religion that says there are many Gods, as do a lot of people I know. So I don't think you should say "all people know that" or "All religions believe thats there is one god." without doing your research first.

god is known by different names, like in islaam we know allah by 100 names. there should be no conflict about the believing in the god,for people knows him by the different names, even the conflicts is not in believing the prophits as we believe in all the prophits with equal respects -- but the question arises in the followers of the prophits and the leaders of all religions coz all of them calld the people towards the truth and humanity. we believe in the different names of the god as per his functionings he is praised by different names for this reason although he is one.
