Do you enjoy reading or writing poetry? What kind of poetry do you like reading? What got you to start writing your own poems? I used to enjoy reading some poetry, those that concerned beauty, life, relationships. Writing poetry was something I hated before, in english class this was the one thing I couldn't seem to get a hang of doing. Years later, I realized the reason it was so hard for me to write was because I tried to write about feelings or events unknown to me. I tried writing happy poems, when I wasn't happy. My present partner taught me how to express my feelings and emotions, and surprisingly this took in the form of writing poetry. When I am feeling very emotional and deeply affected by something, I now turn to writing poetry and it has somehow helped me come to grip with some issues I have in my life. What is it that attracts you to reading/writing poetry?

That's really cool how you learned to put your emotions to paper how you did. I wrote poetry a lot when I was a teenager because it helped me to deal with my depression. When I'm in a certain mood, I do enjoy reading poetry. I enjoy the poetry of the 18th and 19th century especially. But some times I do find that modern poetry meets my expectations rather well.

Ah! A romanticist :) Yes, writing has definitely helped me deal with some of the emotions that I had buried deep inside. Even though some of the poems I write can be so bleak, my partner commented they are so intense, I finally found one of the few outlets for these emotions. I started with poems about the betrayal of the one person I loved and admired before, poems of the abuse I suffered, about the loneliness I feel not being able to share this secret... Now, on occasion I actually can now write poems about love, about learning how to trust again.... Two people in my present life helped me with that, and to them, I will be forever grateful. I still have a long ways to go to gain the closure, the peace of mind, but at least I have started on the path.

I've always heard that the first step on a long journey is the toughest to take. You have great courage for taking that step.

I used to like reading and writing poems when I was young before I got married, but not now. You could be a very good poet when you are in love because you would be very emotional with great passion. That is the period when the great source of inspiration hits you giving you lots of inspirations. Thank you, Candy, for responding to my discussion. I appreciate it very much.
