how do you get a child to stop lieing?

my son is 9 years old and he won't stop lieing and telling stories. his teachers have told me your son might have ADD, i am in the process of haveing that checked out. but i'm trying to help him and it's not working.

Everyone always jumps on the ADD bandwagon when they cant explain something & i'm sorry to tell you but from what i have heard & seen - making up stories & tellies lies is NOT a symptom that they associate with ADD.
I think you need to punish him for every time he does it, if he lies, just take something away from him or tell him he is unable to watch TV for a weekend & make sure he knows it will be longer the next time he does it.
Oh but if he is a good kid & is honest with you or well behaved, make sure you reward him for that too - a trip to the store to pick out a toy or make him a special Ice Cream Sundae.
He will then associate the good stuff with being well behaved & honest & the bad things with his lying & so on. If he truly did have ADD then you'd have heard about it before now, it really doesn't just pop up over night.
It's good you wanna have him checked but i don't think he'll have it - unless he does other things than just lying & such.
