I used to have AVG free edition, but then had a 'trojan horse' try to come in.
Then I heard about avast.
I used that, and it got rid of the problem.
I have also heard of NOD32.
Which is the best of these?
I bought Norton, but found I was getting more problems with it than before.

I have been using Avast for free since June. It has been doing its job, informing me of Trojan horses and viruses that could harm my system. I have heard many good reviews from my friends as well. Someone told me that it should not be used with another anti-virus, though. I don't think I need another one. I just use Spybot to check for other spyware and malware. So far, my system has been doing fine.

Dear BELMCstar, I am using AVG free anti-virus software. It gives good service and AVG often upgrade it also. NOD32 we use in our office. Of course it is good software. AVG never allow trogen horse. One or two time trogen horse tried to enter, immediately it was destroyed by AVG.

Well, I had 2 trojans enter my computer at work, and they were not stopped by AVG.
That is why I am after something else.

I did use Norton for many years and it did the job for me... without any problem.
But Norton has a bad reputation for slowing down computers as it interfere with Windows.
Many people also buy Norton Internet security as part of the anti-virus package. And from what I have seen... it is a bit of a nightmare to use if you don't know much about computers.
I do not see the need for Norton Internet Security.
Since last January... I am using "Sophos". It has been trouble free for me and it checks for updates everyday without asking me anything. That software is being used by large companies... so it must be good.
The only free anti-virus I know off is "Avira Antivir"... but I don't know how good it is.

For me...neither AVG nor NOD32 best. It depend on how regular u update it. However AVG well known for it detection. Some other virus or trojan AVG can't detect or clean it. But NOD32 can. Its always not the same. Each of them had their own speciality. About Norton...i dont really like it coz it can make ur pc slow. Now its up to u. I suggest using kaspersky.:)

i think nod32 is for defeating virus and AVG is for Troj or some rogue plug-in. i install the both of them in my PC.
