Do you love the musicals?

Starting another discussion earlier today with some lyrics from the "Sound of Music", I realised how much I loved the good, old-fashioned musicals. I know some people think they are sily and cliched, and have no relation to "real life" - but sometimes we all need an "escape" from the day to day drudgery don't we? So am I alone? Or do others out there love the musicals too? And if so - which is your favourite? Do you yodel along to the "Sound of Music", shed tears at "West Side Story", or tap your feet to "Oklahoma". My own particular favourite is "West Side Story" - it makes me cry every time I see it. How about you?

Wow - you really are a fan! I love Rocky Horror too! I remember going to see it with my friends in London back in the 80's, and everyone got dressed up in costume, and had to travel back on the tube wearing the most outlandish garb! LOL! Thanks for reminding me!

I like the old-fashioned musicals. I love Fiddler on the roof the most. About a month ago my girls requested to rent Sound of Music so I did and they loved it.

I love West Side Story too and I think the Sound of Music is a bit over the top, I'm not a fan of Miss Goody Two Shoes but I was lucky enough as an impressionable teen to get to see the on stage musical of Carousel and I just loved it. I also love Brigadoon but not sure if that can be classed as a musical.

Growing up, my parents wouldn't let us watch the new movies coming out, but were more than willing to let us rent the older movies. And musicals were a big part of that. Here is a partial list of my favorite musicals: Annie Meet Me in St. Louis Easter Parade Dr. Doolittle (Rex Harrison) Babes in Toyland (Annette Funicello) Seven Brides for Seven Brothers White Christmas (Bing Crosby)

Oliver, the orphan kitten - Named after the famous Dicken's orphan, but more because I love the musical so much
With out a doubt, my favorite is Peter Pan. But I also love some of the songs (and the story) of South Pacific. And Oliver - well, I did name a cat Oliver for the orphan after all - I also love that one. Then you get to the great new musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber, some with more plot than others - I can't even immagine trying to sing on roller skates like in Starlight Express! Tho of course, Cats may be my favorite, but then again, he didn't exactly write most of the lyrics in that one.

Oh I love Cats too! I saw that in London also with the original cast, and Elaine Paige singing "Memories". Also "Phantom of the Opera" with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman when she was still married to Lloyd Webber. Great shows.

Are you kidding? I grew up on the old time musicals since my mother was such a fan...I loved Oklahoma, Carousel, The King and I, My Fair Lady, South Pacific--each and everyone of them had at least one song that was a real tearjerker,,especially Carousel --"If I Loved You"..yeesh that got me going and how about "You'll Never Walk Alone"??? Pass the tissues please!

Yes - they are all classics. But sadly - as for "You'll Never Walk Alone"...... well - it is a great song no doubt, but here in the UK it has been "adopted" as the fans' theme song for Liverpool Football (Soccer) club! So at every match you get thousands of rowdy, drunk football fans singing it VERY out of tune in their strong Scouse (Liverpool) accents! It rather kills the sentiment of it for us Brits:-((

I love musicals. I love the rounded voices of the characters in musicals. The sound of music in particular is one the best ever produced musical. The scenery is spectacular and the musical arrangements are just splendid. I won't mind watching it again and again.
