Why are the elderly so thoughtless?

September 1, 2007 2:43pm CST
I have a elderly married couple living next door to me who always complain of the 'noise' coming from my house. They are nearly 40 and never go out unless it is to chap my front door to complain. Would you believe they came to my door at 5am this morning to ask for the music to be turned down! how inconsiderate is that!!

I'm a little horrified that you're calling someone "nearly 40" elderly!!!! When I think of elderly I think like at least 60, more likely 70 or 80. I do get annoyed with those people who only ever want to complain about what their neighbors are doing, but I've also had neighbors who were loud enough it kept me from sleeping, so I'm not sure what I think. I guess it would depend on how loud the music actually was. =P

*giggles* I'm trying to think if I've lived in any houses less than 40 years old, but I don't think so. =p I suppose for you 40 is over twice your age, so I guess that could be old.

Dear Petra, First of all, 40 years old is far from elderly and second of all, it is very inconsiderate to have music up at 5am. I am a translator and I generally work overnight and many times have to remind myself to keep my music or television down in order to not disturb my neighbors. While I like to listen to music loud, mature adults (even young 24 year old ones like myself) have to be considerate of others

when they first moved in i got drunk and slept with the husband as he is quite fit for a old man. he was crap and i never went back for more. i feel this is all because i dropped him after a drunken quickie and has nothing to do with the music. should i tell his wife?

40 old I am sorry but even when I was 5 to me 40 was not old. In Australia if you have you music loud enough to be heard outside your house at 5am you would have more than the neigbours over, you would have the police over faster than you can think (and thank god for that) the first time they might let you off with a warning but the second time you would pay good money (probably about 2-3 music players worth)

Wow, I don't think I'm going to make any comments on the obvious issues you have, I'll just stick with the topic. Forty is not elderly. Forty is generally considered middle age, but not elderly. And to me it would be more inconsiderate to play your music loud that early in the morning than it would be for them to come and ask for you to turn it down. Maybe you should work out a compromise with them, I'm sure if you talk to them you can come up with some type of agreement. Or better yet, keep your music at a moderate level. You might like it, but not everyone in the world has your music taste.
