Plan B-Emergency Contraception

I recently received an invitation to sign a petition against the Kroger food stores chain. It had to do with their pharmacies refusal to supply Plan B emergency contraception upon request. I do vaguely remember hearing about this issue sometime ago, but I have to say I am ignorant as to what it involves exactly. Maybe some of you could enlighten me on this subject. Also, why would Kroger refuse to fill the prescriptions? I would be very interested in learning more on this subject.

Hello worldwise1....... The issue is whether or not pharmacists should be allowed to refuse to dispense the so-called "morning after" pill, based on their own religious beliefs. Pharmacists are there to dispense medicine.....NOT their own special brand of religion !!!!!!!!! How would people feel if police officers refused to help you if they thought your way of life conflicted with their religion ????? Or firemen ????? How about all first responders ??? Suppose it was an ambulance driver that decided not to take your loved one to a hospital because they though your way of life was somehow wrong ????? Pharmacists that refuse should be fired immediately ! Any business that allows this should be boycotted !! All decisions concerning birth control have to be left to each individual women......no man, business or government should have any say whatever !!!! Tom

Hello Fab315.... You are correct saying that pharmacists SHOULD follow a code of ethics......but.... You are wrong about this.......this controversy is about US pharmacists and/or business owners refusing to dispense this particular medication based on THEIR OWN religious beliefs. It has happened in many places in the US, and they have stated that this is the reason for it. Religion SHOULD NOT enter into any decision made by a pharmacist/doctor/fireman/policeman or anyone who works helping the public. Tom

HellO! First of all thank you for correcting me about this issue. If their religious beliefs are the reason for not dispensing the medicine I don't think it's correct at all. If issues like that are happening in the US I could honestly say I couldn't believe it especially we're now living in a modern era. I have pharmacist friends who works in a hospital run by a religious group and they don't let their religious beliefs interfere in the medical services they're giving to the patients. I definitely agree that religion should not interfere and should not be the basis of any decision especially when it comes to health/science. Thank you again. *smile* ciao! =)

it does something to the lining of ur uterus so that a fertilised egg cannot implant... i think its wrong for anyone to dictate what anothers body should or should not go through.. plus we dont know this person reasons... i hate the other people try and control what happens to other people...

That's the way life is, bonnie. It's all about whoever has the most power has the most control. I have never seen this change, and don't expect to any time soon.

The plan b pill keeps the egg from embedding into the uterus, thereby stopping the growth process. It comes out as a period. The egg may or may not be fertilized, but no baby is even beginning. You need to decide for yourself how hardcore you think this is. That said, I would recommend contacting Kroger's via their website to find their real policy. This may be a pro choice propoganda stunt. Bear in mind, I am pro choice, but I see propoganda on both sides. Check it before taking action.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17537102/ The above is a link I found. Apparently, it was just one store and one pharmisist. Krogers is trying to make certain that women can get the perscription filled.

Plan B contraception is quite simply a chemical abortion if conception has happened. Many don't want to face that fact but that is their choice. Kroger's might be owned by Christians and for that reason they don't want to carry it.
