Child with Downs

My mother is 39 and has just got pregnant. She has had multiple tests to look for deformaties and downs syndrome. If the child has downs she will abort. Do you think that this is selfish? Her reasoning is that as the child progresses, it needs constant help. If anything happened to her, she wouldn't want her family t ohave the burden of looking after a person for all of their life. She would also be unable to cope. Do you think this is unfair on the child, or agree with her point of view? (she has two children, 16 and 18)
