Leaving Computers on Overnight?

I finally got rid of my malware, and have been running avast through the day to scan it and make sure nothing else is lurking. The only thing is that it slows up the computer. Would it be safe to leave the computer on when I leave work at 5 p.m. to run Avast scanning, and then to come back in at 9 a.m. after it has had a chance to scan it all night? I know that the C.S.I.R.O. (Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation) leave theirs on overnight, just turning off the monitors to avoid burn in. Help please, I need to leave in just over 2 hours from now. Many thanks.

Avast wont get everything. Try running "Spybot Search and Destroy", a freebie, and "AdAware"...another freebie. Between them they will/ should keep your pc in top operating condition and they can be added as "Scheduled Tasks" to run during the night. You'll have to do a weekly update on them to make sure you are catching new variations of bad stuff.

The site for a free download of this product and some reviews on it is as follows: http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html I switch my monitor off when ever I leave the room. It uses a fair amount of energy. Yes, it goes to standby eventually but I like to switch it off anyway.

It would be safe to leave your computer on overnight. I used to leave mine on when I was in surfing programs. Of course, you do save electricy if you turn your compurter off, but just once or twice won't matter.

Your computer will be fine :) Mine i have had running for a couple of weeks, non-stop! You don't have to worry about monitor burn because they have a screen saver & then go to standby so the monitor has it's own safety type devise anyway. After a few days the computer may seem to run a little slower but if you restart it, it'll run just fine! Good luck & don't worry, your computer wont have any problems if you leave it on!

You may get this alittle late but, yes you certainly can leave your computer on 24/7 . You can set your scanning software to start work at certain times of the day ie during the night . I would switch off your monitor as it's just a waste of energy leaving it on with no-one watching. If you cant switch off your monitor then get a screensaver. Hope this helps, have fun.
