How limiting is FEAR in your life?

I receive daily "the notes of the Universe", from the www.tut.com web site, and I love all of these, as they really make my day, and make me start it with a big smile ;). Today's note was again very deep and very uplifting and I wanted it to share it with you all. "The is no such choice you've ever made, Tatiana, nor any you will ever make, that will limit you as much as you may fear. Nor even limit you at all. How cool is that? The Universe" Now I wanted to ask you, how often has it happened in your life that you were blocked in your actions, or felt limited by some fear? And if you are aware of this fear, do you try to act against it, and still do what you wanted, no matter how afraid you were? Years ago I was often limited in my actions due to fears. Fearing what people might say, or think. Fear of not achieving the outcome I wished to achieve and end on the 2nd or even lower place, etc etc. The older I become I become however, the less fear I experience and feel much more at ease with myself, and not as frightened by circumstances or people as I was before. How about you, fellow MyLotters?

I suffer from anxiety and a lot of times I fear things that have a very low probability of even happening. It's a terrible feeling and has kept me up at night. I also fear something happening to my children. The fear that that inhibits me the most is driving. I can drive in places that I know with less fear, but if I don't COMPLETELY know the area I just won't do it. I have no sense of direction and my fear of getting lost overwhelms me. This is the one fear I am really trying to overcome in my life.

Hi Moneyandgc, thank you for responding in this discussion. It must be awful to have to live with the fears you have, and I feel for you. Have you tried to look for help with the fears you experience? What helped me enormously is while fearing - do it anyway, and if I can't - do it and do it all over again, until the fear vanishes.

This is what I am trying to do with my fear of driving. My husband is talking about getting me a GPS so I won't be so scared of getting lost. I was on meds for a long time due to my anxiety but I haven't been on them since I found out I was pregnant with my daughter who just turned 16 months.

Hi Rahul_cool81287 The tut.com is really wonderful, and the best of all - it's free, so there is nothing to stop you to sign yourself for the notes - and you'll be looking for each one of these to arrive to you and make you smile :) As for the dealing with the fears, different things work for different people, and for me mostly works to do the things that I fear most, and confront these this way. They simply loose in power this way ;)

I am also quite like you, little hesitant and shy when I was still on my teens. I do excell in some ways, but I get shy whenever someone acknowledges me work. I don't know, maybe I'm just not used to it. I still have this feeling up until now, but I make sure the I have the guts to face all the chllenges and ready myself for whatever the results of my work might end. also, I don't mind much about judgmental people because I know that I am the master of my own destiny!;)

There is truly nothing like age and experience to teach us that what ever we may fear is most often only in our minds. Our fear then stops us from addressing the issue and finding out the truth. About the only time in my life that I was ever depressed was when my perception of my job performance was not good. I had a review coming up. This of course not only meant more money but builds your self esteem. Except that is when you get a poor one. I was convinced that for the first time in my life I would get a poor rating. I was so convinced that when I went to an indoor soccer game with my son it was like I was there but not there. Normally I would have the wild time everyone else did but all I could think of was this review. It completely ruined that night for me. The review? One of my best ever. All in my head and of course I learned from that. Having a poor self esteem almost guarantees that you will have fear of a lot of things. Mostly relationships. After all how can you ever measure up. Fear is crippling, it stops you from doing the most basic things and can keep you from having a very productive life. But 99% of that fear is only what we imagine.

Great comments Jbrooks0127, and thanks a lot for jumping in the discussion :) If you check all the acronyms for FEAR, you'll see how close you come with your life experiences, and these. The one that sounds most appropriate for me is: False Evidence Appearing Real, and this was the case with your job review. And when we know it - nothing can stop us anymore ;)

Don't you just love those Notes? I belong to that site as well, and I love Mike Dooley's biggie three words he always says, "Thoughts Become Things" Do you belong to the forum there? I do. Another powerful book I read sometime ago, and plan to read again is Susan Jeffer's "Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway." How true. To overcome any fears we may have, you have to do the exact thing you fear...if you keep at it and do it over and over, and over again, you no longer fear it. You see I've been dealing with panic disorder with agoraphobia for many, many years..too many. There was one time I was completely housebound..well no longer, thank goodness. I still have a ways to go to overcome it, since I'm not exactly ready to book a flight to France..LOL...but hey, I do plan to do that..uh, my vision boards...have pictures of places I want to travel, things I want to do and accomplish. When one realizes that YOU yourself are often placing those fears, then one can take action to overcome them..and that's precisely what I'm doing :)

Hiya Pyewacket, nice to have you in the discussion and thanks a lot for always great contributions :) And yup, love the three words too, and do little else than trying to make these become true for me :) And no, I am not part of the forum there, didn't I told you that even if a day had 72 hours I'll still be short of time? :P But I know where you're coming from regarding the agoraphobia, as I have had this one too, not too long really, just about 2 years, and I overcome this hurdle. The book you're talking about - Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway sounds like I have read the reviews about , but haven't bought it. I am above the FEARs now, and do exactly as the title is saying...if and when FEAR strucks it's ugly head - I am doing exactly IT, and fight it this way, not that it happens often anymore - :)

Hi Maheksaj and thank you for your responce ;) The fear you are having of heights is actually a different kind of fear, it sounds like a phobia, and these could be cured with the right therapies :)

Well my friend - I believe that life's too short to be limited by anything, so I'm very glad to say I'm not scared of anything apart from possibly thunder and lightening, which I have a phobia about, but it wouldn't stop me living my life if that makes sense! Life is a wonderful thing to be grasped with both hands and enjoyed - not to hide away from. Yes of course there are bad people and we may get hurt along the way, but better to be hurt and ecperience life in all it's forms, than hide away in fear and not to live at all!
