Is internet gaming taking over our lives?

Is it just me or are games such as Everquest, Everquest II, and World of Warcraft taking over our lives. Children as young as 12 and 13 play them and adults as old as 50 and 60 play them. We go to school or work, depending on who you are, and the second that we come home we plant ourselves in a chair in front of a computer and there we stay until it is time to call it a night and do it all over again. We make dinner in between tasks, eat at our computer desks and tell our children to go watch T.V. because we are busy, when in all actuality we are playing a game, a game that seems to eat every moment of our spare time. Now it is getting to the point where a group of people will REQUIRE your attendance at certain events or require you to play “X” number of hours per week or get penalized, and people listen! So tell me, am I the only one or is the whole world going to internet gaming?

I think it is a way for people to escape their 'Real' life. They can run, jump and have fun with their 'friends'. And if they get upset or things don't work out, they can make a new character and start all over.
BUT -- they are fun and it can be quite a challenge to create and maintain a character.

Do you game online? I posted this message because I play numerous onlime games and for quite some time they took over my life, until I learned how to regulate it. This response sounds like it is coming from someone that also games and can understand why we do it.

I did play Everquest for quite a while. (Ragdolyn - The Rathe server) Then I started a home-based business and just wasn't getting anything done because I always wanted to play EQ. I got her to level 57 and my husband quit playing EQ (Mauhlee - same server) and went to playing WOW. I really only started playing so we could do it together. It was fun while it lasted and I do miss it sometimes but...I get a lot more done now!

haha yeah it seems that all MMORPGs are your second life :) Do you ever see yourself trying a different one? I find the hardest thing for me to do is pay $15.00/mo for an online game. Now that I look at how much I have spent (time and money), it seems like kind of a waste.
