What brand of computer do you use and why?
I use Dell..don't actually know why..I guess because Walmart here stopped selling hp's and that was my favorite brand.

We bought 2 HP's with Media Center. I will not buy Dell again as their after sales service is really poor. They appear to be interested in the sale mainly and the after sales procedures are far more of a hassle.

I have a Gateway now. We just bought it last Sunday. It is the second Gateway we have had. We had another one from 1999-2004. Our other computer is a Sony Vaio and if I had the choice I would have gotten another Sony. I really liked that one despite having the hard drive die on us last week, but Best Buy doesn't sell the Sony desktops anymore (that is where we bought that one in 2004).
I never thought I would ever buy a Gateway again but we got a good deal on it. The last one I bought online so I could configure it the way I wanted (which they don't seem to offer anymore). The one we have now was a floor model so we bought it as is, out of the box.

I just don't think their customer service is up to par. The first one I had wasn't a bad computer but for what I spent--I probably could have done better. The computer lasted about 4 years but it started acting up after 3 and we had to have it fixed twice but I don't think they ever did anything to it (we took it to a Gateway store back before they closed).
This one we can get serviced at Best Buy and so far they seem okay.

I built my own computer so I will give you a run-down of the brands I chose and why:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+- LOW cost and good thermal statistics. Great for overclocking.
ATI Radeon 9550 - God company, no troubles with previous cards, average video card, played Doom 3 fine, etc.
Seagate HD - WD hard drives tend to die on me so I chose a Seagate. 4 years: still running great.
PQI Memory - off-brand lifetime warranty, cheap. What more can you ask for?
Good post question; good luck!
