I used to read to my daughter all the time.. she is almost 8 and now she wants to read to me... she did ask me to read a story tonight.. at 10:30p.. she didn't want to go to bed.. Here was the story
"There once was a little girl named Skye, she would not go to bed when her mommy told her. It was about a week before Halloween.. Her mommy told her that if she doesn't go to bed, she will not get to trick or treat" She said alright, alright.. i get your point.. im going to sleep.. but that was a bad story.. LMAO

I don't read bedtime stories to my children anymore. They are grown. When they were small I did. Most of the time I would pre-read the story, so that I could adlib the story and make it more exciting if needed. It makes for a better story. Sometimes I would just tell the story. I would tell them, "Close your eyes and make up the pictures in your head." They were asleep in now time, with no 'fighting'. Sometimes I would take the story and sing it. They liked this too.

I read to my kids at bedtime quite a bit. Their fvorites are goodnight Moon, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. My son loves Curious george, Transformers and any thing about trucks. My 8 year old likes to read to herself most of the time, but sometimes we read her chapter books together. She loves reading books about animals, especially dogs and horses.

I used to read Good Night Moon every night, but when we moved the rocker didn't fit in the baby's room, so I didn't do it anymore. I think when she goes into a toddler bed, I will start again. I try to read to her thoughout the day, but she tends to not sit very still. Her favorites are Sleepy Dog and A Fish Out of Water. She also likes the counting book. She doesn't talk at all yet, but I swear if I say "one" she will say "two, three". Can those count as first words?

That is great she will learn to sit still as she gets older and gets more interested in being read to.

I don't have kids but when I do I'll read the stories my mom read to me. I still have all my childhood books, well half. I got half my brother got half. I used to love anything by Dr. Suess.

I used to, but my daughter used to really fight going to bed at night, so whenever I'd want to read her a story at other times of the day, she'd resist, thinking she'd have to go to sleep after. So, I had to quit doing that.
