What if someone breaks in your house at night?

Just last night, my husband woke me up around 2:30am cause he heard a noise outside our room like a " big stomp". He said he was sure that he heard something. I was a little bit scared and i stayed in the bed and watched him go out slowly from our room with his license gun to check if someone just breaked in our house. I told him to be really careful, i got so nervous cause it would be a really bad thing if someone breaks in to our house. Anyway, he slowly turned on every light in the room and walk slowly to check every part of the house with his gun ( having just the thought of it makes me nervous already ). Then in the living room we found a file of newspaper that just fell out of the filing closet, after seeing that, we feel relief that no one really broke inside our house. Unfortunately, my husband couldn't go back to sleep after that. He said if someone breaks in our house he would really try to protect me and what i will do is immediately call 911. I just hope this won't ever happen at all. How about you? what will you do if someone tries to break in your house? Would you be scared and nervous too? or you would try to check every inch of the house to make sure everythings ok?

I would change only one thing in how you handled things. Have remote control switches where you can turn on lights in other parts of your house from your bedroom. You want the intruder in the light while you approach from darkness. I'll tell you a true to life intruder story I read about a blind man. He had a master switch where he could turn off all lights in his house. Afterall, he did not need them and only had them for his friends who came to visit. His weapon was a chain saw he kept tuned up to start instantly. He put a guy in the hospital one day. Turned out the fool was a cold hearted guy who thought a blind man would be an easy target.

Yes, the master switch to the lights is often recommended by security experts. Additionally, how about a high quality recording of a gruff male voice saying something like, "You better run! I'll cut you down to size." Follow this with a recording of a chainsaw starting while the volume increases. Of course, you may have to clean a mess off the floor that will fall out of the bad guy's pants.

that would be a good idea redyellowblackdog, it would be really useful if we have it in our house. We just have a security alarm for every door in the house and it's loud, thats why i just need to turn it on every night, cause in the morning it will scare the neighbors when you always open the door and the alarm is on. hehehe..

Check the pic. Thats whats waiting for them inside & they've just given me an excuse to use it. There's a sharp pointy within reach almost everywhere in my house with the loud ones in my room. As if the hounds out back wouldn't be enough to scare someone off! Plus I have enough land to hide the body, whats left of it after the hounds pick it over that is.

Find my cell phone and find my bat. Call 9-1-1, and if I see the robber, beat him or her down with the bat as quickly and swiftly as possible.

There's very little possibility that anyone can break in our house, coz we have a nice security system in place.. We have also have a dog who is quite quick at sniffing out odd things at night.. So, the possibility is very slim.. But still, if it does happen, I will make sure that the burglar dosen't walk free.. I would wake up all my family members very quietly and then we would attack him and make him hostage till help comes.. I will also raise my car's alarm as I keep its keys under my pillow just in case something of this kind ever happens...

we also have security system in the house, we put an alarm to each door, but we are just worried about our sliding glass door under the basement, even if it has an alarm, my husband said someone can have a glass cutter to just break in the glass. i hope that won't happen. But since we put all the alarms we feel more secure at night. We always check if the doors are lock and the alarm is on before we go to bed. :)

We have dogs that guard us and signify us on the things that is happening around us. They barked when somebody pass by or enter on our compound. Though every door or window are locked it is always nice to have something to guard you and to be always alert if this thing happens.

we also have a dog but she's small and she sleeps with us inside our room so before she would know there's an intruder in the house it would be too late already cause she's sleeps with us. :) my spoiled jack russell.

Our dogs alerts us to any and every noise outside of our room, and certainly any inside of it.I have a stick, that is a novelty can opener, so it's long and has a metal hook at one end, I keep that by the bed for immediate use, lol.I have people and animals I love dearly in this house, so I am the one who secures the doors and windows at night, and I would check every inch of the house if need be.My gf calls it "smashing out into the danger",lol.I'm glad you guys were ok!

Oh! That is a very hard situation. Atleast no one was inside your house. Well, if it will happen to our house maybe I will get panicked and shout. But I always pray that I hope no mad person will get inside our house. And he will not get anything precious from our houses because we are poor. We just have few appliances and no money.

I'm glad it was newspaper and nothing else. We have a dog that alerts us. Even though she is small, she can still bark and growl and bite! I would be devastated if anything happened to her while she was trying to protect us. Fortunately, I live in a relatively safe neighborhood. The phone is close by and our Police respond to 911 calls very, very quickly. Other than that, I have a baseball bat that I know how to use quite well! PEACE

It will be a horrible experience and I don't want to ever experience it. I usually will have my cellphone beside me when I am sleeping. So if there are any accidents, at least I can dial the emergency call.

we have a wireless extension phone near our bed so it's just easy to call also in case of emergency. i never dialed 911 in my whole life, i hope i won't need to dial it ever cause it just means something bad happened. We are just always need to be alert of some noise inside the house and be really careful, cause we don't know now a days. Hope you have a nice day!

That was really scary, claire. Thankfully, it was just a false alarm. First of all, if someone will break into our house, they will have a very hard time first in trying to get pass our dog, Ashley. She's so huge that she can easily pin down anyone who will be inside our yard in an ungodly hour. Now, if they successful get passed our dog, they have to cut off the window grills, which would surely make a racket! But if they choose to enter through the main door or the back door, the second they open the door, the alarm will surely surprise them. Now, if they have successfully got passed all of those, and finally entered our house, my husband and I will be already wide awake and had finally called the police and will just be waiting for them to be caught.

That's right. Check everything first before you go to bed. Better to be sure than sorry later. I just want to ask though, do most houses have windrow grills back there, like here in the Philippines?I guess you're aware that most houses here have window grills, that serves as protection against house robbers. But it's also dangerous because one can't escape when fire breaks out.

The main thing that most people fear here are robbers who break inside the houses, especially those that have easy access. Here in our subdivision, just last year, there were numerous reports of break-ins. The houses that were broke into had no window grills and no dogs at all. I even had to experience hearing someone scream because she saw someone break into their house. All I can hear were her screams for help, someone cursing and the sound of a motorcycle starting.

no we don't have window grills, we only have a glass window that you can flip open. i think that's the usual window they have here in every house. you are right, that would be hard in case of a fire you have no where to go for an exit. that's why we also have sliding doors so in case of fire it's easy to open from inside.
