Is Everything About Our Life Predestined Or Predetermined ?

All our actions, ambitions, hopes, aspirations, failures, successes, fortunes, worries, happiness, luck, gains, losses etc are predetermined. I would uphold a line of thinking whereby nothing in our life is in our direct contol. Our whole existence is largely dependant on factors governed by the indomitable fate or destiny . If things happen otherwise, all of us would have much happier souls. How could anyone alter the course of predetermined state of affairs? There is remedy for physical illness - but none for the malefic influence of destiny.

Well I believe that half of our life is destined and determined for us, but half of it is governed by choices, not just ours but all the choices of all the people that in any way effect us or our lives or actions.
There is something called free will, and the power to choose, and I think if it were all predetermined, then it is definitely not fair, it means that Hitler wasn't a bad man, but that he was destined to do what he did, but that just sounds like an excuse, doesn't it?
So everyday, starts off with the fates having a specific pattern for us, but when we make our choices, we change that. Our fates and destinies are just likely outcomes of our lives, but our actions and our choices, are what assuredly take it our way.
I mean, wouldn't you agree, that if a murderer was meant to be one, then it's not really his fault that fate decided it for him, but on the day he committed the murder, he had a choice not to do it also, and that would not only effect and change his life but also the person's who he was supposed to kill, so in this way two fates were changed. I believe we can change our fates, and that God has given us the opportunity to shape our own lives.
It's a very intricate pattern of people and their choices, the choice of someone I know or someone I don't even know might effect me, and I could do the same for someone, we're all connected, even here in my lot, something someone says might help someone decide something in someone's life and help them choose a certain course of action, that will shape their lives in some form.
I know it's confusing but that's what I believe.

It's hard to explain if it is predestined or predertmined since they are similar words. We have our free will and we choose what we do therefore we are the one making our destiny. Our life is not programmed as robots are. We are the master of our own will and it's the matter of choosing the right thing or even the best for ourselves, weighing things out, our decisions and judgement affect our destiny.

I really hop it isn't, if it is someoone up there dosn't seem to like me. I think this theory is a 'get out clause' for people who have made he wrong decisions in life. We all make wrong decisions but should accept that it's our own fault when things go wrong. I would hate t think tha my life had been planned and I couldn't alter it.

As I see it the future does not exist, there can only be possibilities. If a pebble is dropped from a tree it is going to land on the ground within the time it takes to travel the distance - but not 100% guaranteed to do so. A mad dog can suddenly appear, catch it in its mouth and swallow it. It is now going to take a lot longer to end up on the ground.
I think we need to remember we have choice. There are strong forces, pushing us here and there I believe are life's lessons that we learn through struggle. The here and now is all that exists and if we each pay full attention to it in everything we do and experience, we will be fulfilled (i.e. full of our experience) and this will enable us to move with the flow of the moment of now.
It seems the universe is random and as a Zen practitioner I do all I can to go with it. The randomness seems however to become ordered - but only when we look back at it later on - this is because we can add rationality to it then and see a pattern, but in the here and now - there cannot be rationality, for it has not yet unfolded. It is not only here and now, it is the "All" - the oneness and everlasting. Some may call this God. We can only know the future because it is now, is now, is now, is now.. For more craziness, check out my blog if you with... http://piecesofzen.blogspot.com But be warned.. it is not rational but crazy! LOL

Hello there. Is our Life Predestined or Predetermined? This has been a question which none of us can answer convincingly. It ultimately depends on your belief and faith. I personally believe that we are given a set of choices in our life. Those choices are predetermined. However, what we ultimately choose still depend on ourselves. Our choice will affect our future. Hence, I believe our lives are still mainly in our own hands.

Hey s794,
I believe it's a combination of both-yes God does have a plan for you but man has freewill so therefore one may stray from the plan but I believe God will not allow any man to stray so far from His plan that His purpose is not served. After all that's what we were placed here on earth for (to please God).

I would argue that your destiny is within your control by your thoughts and what harbors within your mind. Do you have a choice as to what to think about? Do you have a choice to take actions based on your thinking? I would say yes to both questions. You may not be able to control outside forces, but you can control your inner reactions to them. That makes all the difference, I believe.

When we give away control of our lives we are living someone else's life or deam.Do I believe that I am not in control, not for a second. because, I have seen the result of people believing that some one or something is in control of their life, and there for do not take any responsibility for their action's. It is sort of like leading a small child out in to a busy highway and telling them not to worry, as the "Gods " will take care of them. Hog wash, we are all responsible for our actions, and yes there are those who believe that I was preordained to say those exact words. I believe we all have a mission to accomplish here and we will stay here until we get it right, and that may be from a few seconds to 100 plus years. In the mean time I will try to be the best person I can be and try not to harm my fellow man. And that takes up pretty much of my life as we speak.

I think that some are predestined but some can be changed - according to the effort that is being put in.
I suggest you take a look at this conversation. It cleared most of my doubts and I would consider it a gem in wisdom.

Yes my friend but I think It depends on how you look at it and what you believe. If you believe in destiny and fate, its all pre determined but when you think you make your own fate-it goes the other side. So its depends on the person who has this believe.

I believe in free will....I believe in destiny. I believe everyone is destined for greatness. You have the power to choose your destiny and its your free will to place yourself to any level of greatness you want to be. Nobody can prevent you from becoming who you want to be. If they succeed, it is not because they are powerful than you, but rather you let them succeed in doing so. The bottom line is "it is your will that make you who you are today and tomorrow."

Hi Sukumar794, very nice topic and thank for bringing it up :)
I do agree with you that our life is predestined, or at least for the bigger part of it. There are however always some possibilities with making choices, which could change the course of our lifes. There are some people who are able to "wash" the old sins off our souls, and at times I have considered using their services. being very critical however i doubt they could do that, and did not go ahead with it. Since I do believe in reincarnation, and that what we do in this life, good or bad goes forward with our next existence, I am very careful to not bring bad karma with me into the next life in front of me. This is probably the only way to go, and this is what I encourage everyone to be and do as much good as possible in his own life now :)

If one does not believe in fate how and to what can one attribute to the fortunate and unfortunate things events that occur in one's life.
Destiny has to be believed as it is the end point of each second to the ultimate end point of one's life.So happenings like reaching one's goal or not (else)one achieves what he wants to or not all are named and taken in the name of destiny.
So if you do not like to name them as "fate" or "destiny" rename the same since these names have become synonymous with one's life from the womb to the tomb.

I have made conscious decisions in my life that has altered my destiny. Not all of our decisions are the right decisions of course and we have to move on from there, but I also think that our lives are guided by a higher power. A gentle nudge to push us in the direction we are meant to go. So even when something bad happens or something that we didnt expect, I feel that a higher power has taken us in this direction and it is our job to find where it leads us. So I guess I would have to agree with you.

sukumar good question.I must say that both has part in our life, how is that so? well because certain situation is beyond our control, how can we explain that people from around the world meet each other in so many ways? they even marry each other, how can we explain our existence in this world? so we are predestined to be form out from our mother's womb,But mostly after that is predetermined because its us who chooses the path/journey we take in life.its us who's accountable in every action we make, its up to us make the best out of us.
