Is the Water Safe?

Normally I like the taste of our tap water. It comes from
a large artesian well in the neighboring town. This summer
we have had quite above average temperatures in my area,
very little rain and temperatures over 100 degrees for a
coupla months. The tap water now has a bad smell and taste.
County officials say it is algae growing in it due to the
hot weather, and that it is safe to drink, but I am getting
bottled water, and filling up my waterjugs at a spring
so I don't have to use the tapwater for cooking and drinking. My son had
a bad stomach virus for 2 weeks and
I'm wondering if the water wasn't to blame.

Weather the water is safe or not, u should never drink water directly from the tap.. U should install some filter from where u collect water for drinking purposes.. Nowdays, water has become a source for many human ailments, so its better to filter tap water or boil it before drinking..

I keep a water jug at work and at home in my room all the time, so I'm more apt to drink water. Often I'm too lazy to get up and get it so I don't drink anything at all, or if I do stand up and go to the kitchen I usually end up getting soda or a soft drink. So I definitely agree on the water bottle idea.

I agree the bottled water is probably the safest way to
ensure it is good. After the weather cooled off for a few
days and we got some rain the water tasted and smelled good
again.

Drinking water is water that is intended to be ingested by humans. Water of sufficient quality to serve as drinking water is termed potable water whether it is used as such or not. Although many sources are utilized by humans, some contain disease vectors or pathogens and cause long-term health problems if they do not meet certain water quality guidelines. Water that is not harmful for human beings is sometimes called safe water, water which is not contaminated to the extent of being unhealthy. The available supply of drinking water is an important criterion of carrying capacity, the population level that can be supported by planet Earth.

We get algae in our water when there is no rain. Then we are advised to get a water filter or buy bottled water from the store. We are also told to boil our water. We use a Brita Filter on our tap and when you first put it on the water tastes alkali. We used to get a large container but there was no room in the fridge to put it. Right now our city is updating our water filtration system so that when it is finished, we do not have to go to the store and buy those filters or bottled water.
I would keep with bottled water or get a Brita filter.

Hello clrumfelt, Yes its probably due to the hot weather that's why your tap atet reservoir had change in color and taste. If you want to be really sure that your water is clean throroughly boil it first before you drink it. Sometimes we have the same thing happening to us here.
About your son's virus, its possible that he got it from drinking the water and might be from eating unclean food too. Better to have it check by the Doctor to be sure. :-)

I have had him to the dr's office but we haven't got the
results of his tests yet. He was better for a couple of
days but this morning has queasiness again so that he is
home from school. He's already missed a lot for this and
I hope we can figure out what's going on so he can get
well. He doesn't use tap water much so I am pretty much
ruling that out as the cause. No one else in my family
has become ill from it. Maybe we will have him to a
specialist if this isn't resolved soon:|

We have the same problem where we live. Our water comes from a huge man-make lake and its awful! It smells and it doesnt taste like its ok to drink, so like you we buy bottled water and fill our jugs up at this filtering place in town. I wonder why the independent filtering place can filter the water to taste and smell better but our water department cant. The worst thing about this is that our water bill is included in our rent, so we dont really have to pay for water, but since its been smelling so badly we end up paying for it. They say its the lake turning over and that it wont last for long, but its been all summer! I dont feel quite clean when I take a shower cos all I can smell is that awful water.
I wouldnt doubt if your son got his virus from drinking the water. Is there anyway you could have a doctor confirm that it is possible?
Hope it gets better for you soon!

Unclean water is of course not safe to drink. Water may be polluted by many things and many ways. In the province before we drink from deep wells and they are safe to drink. They are good to drink but if there is pollution brought about by anything, drinking from artesian wells should be stopped until the problem is solved and the water is declared safe to drink. I think it's the water that is to blame. Drink purified water.

i dont know about the water that the water is safe or not but i can guide you that in our country we people have placed filters with the water taps specially in the kitchens from where we drink water. so you can always install a water filter to purify the drinking water.
