upon reaching a certain page of a novel/book while reading, where you have to pause or take a break, what normally do you do - BOOKMARK or FOLD that page? does it apply to any kinds of book you read? (novels, schoolbooks, borrowed library books,etc..)

I tend to fold the tip of the corner on the page I stop on. I don't know when I started this habit, but even if I have a bookmark I tend to fold the corner of the page.

could it be it's because you feel it's a little messy with bookmarks?...i do feel this way when i borrowed books. but when i bought one favorite novel recently, i thought it's a bad idea to continue this folding habit and stopped ever since. i just don't want my own book not to last long.

I prefer to use bookmarks because I don't want to ruin by folding it. Especially if I just borrowed it to a friend, I won't dare to fold even a single page. I also find bookmarks quite enticing since it comes with different designs.

i will use a bookmark, i had never fold the page of a book. i often keep the book clean and tidy.
frankly, i like books, and i respect them. if i find my favorite books are dirty or be fold, i don't buy them although they are too cheap. so i had never lent books to my friends or classmates, although they will be angry, but i don't believe that they will keep my books clean.
i had never made notes on my studying books.

I use a bookmate, which holds the book open at the page I'm on. If I decide to close the book, the bookmate has a bookmark on it I can use. But 9 times out of 10 I just leave it open, so I can just pick it up and read. It's a nice option to have when you don't have a lot of time to read. When I read books that don't fit in the bookmate (the one I have only fits mass market paperbacks), I make a mental note of the page before I close the book. My son has a habit of flushing bookmarks down the toilet, and I don't really like folding down the corner of the page.

hey singlepixel!Upon reaching a certain chapter (I always stop at a new chapter hehe),I'll usually bookmark the pages. I seldom fold the pages, just incase I need to sell it off to get some cash.I read mostly, self help books, non fiction, autobiographies, schoolbooks(I'm studying for a Master's Degree in Biotechnology) & yes, sometimes library books too! Thanks singlepixel!

I always bookmark them. I used to fold them, but I stopped doing that years ago.
I don't usually use proper bookmarks because I would just lose them anyway. I use any piece of paper I have as bookmarks.

I always use book marks in books but I sometimes fold in magazines. It just never felt right to fold the pages of a book, even if it is a textbook or library book.

I definitely use bookmarks. I have used pretty much anything, the torn corner of a sheet of typing paper, my business card, or a "real" bookmark. I don't like bent pages!

I've learned to use those removable sticky colored bookmarkers, cuz I keep jumping from chapter to chapter in my reference books- these make it easier! :)

I tend to be a folder. I try to use a book mark though when it is a book I've borrowed. Like from a friend or the library.I just fold a small corner and i always unfold it when I'm done.

Bookmark! To fold a page in a book is to damage it. I always use a bookmark and I make sure that the select few that borrows my books, use a bookmark also. Now magazines, on the other hand, I don't fold pages in there either, but I don't mind if the pages get tattered looking since I usually give them away when I'm done with them.

I prefer a bookmark; if I don't have one I'll usually find a piece of paper to use as one. I rarely dogear pages.
And I second the vote for LibraryThing!
