taking pills while breasfeeding

have you tried taking pills while nursing or breasfeeding your baby? after giving birth my doctor gave me pills so i will not get pregnant, but it's almost 7months now, i never had my monthly period.is it very normal? or i'm pregnant again? i'm worried because my second son is just 7 months old. what do you think? until now im taking a pill.... thanks

If you're on the minipill (which you most likely are if you're nursing), you may not get a period. I was on the minipill until my daughter was a year old and never got a period. My OB assured me this was normal. Basically the minipill works by blocking ovulation. Normally, when you ovulate, the lining of your uterus thickens in preparation for the egg to implant. If pregnancy doesn't result, then the lining sheds and your period occurs. Since the minipill blocks ovulation, your uterus has no reason to thicken and later shed, thus no period. I hope that makes sense.
