Okay I have three cats and am going to get a fourth in about 3 weeks when it is done nursing so I probably have more then my fair share.
I don't ever plan on having more then four it is my limit!
Now my mother on the other hand I think has issues! I love my cats okay, I love all cats I think they are awesome but my mom, for her loving her cats is an understatement!
Okay for starters my mom has like 38 cats!!!! I call her house the kittyfarm! Okay she does live outside of city limits but still has neighbors so shes not completly rural.
She builds gymnasiums for them and buys like $100. water bowls and liter boxes and stuff and the most expensive food she can find as well. I mean she spoils them rotten! She has even refused to babysit for me because she was dong something for or with her cats on numerous occations!
Yes I said 38 cats!!!!!! She would have more but she was forced to spay and neuter them all. How can I convince her that she has TOO MANY and should find new homes for them at least some of them....?
Or should I just leave it alone?

Your mom sounds like a sweet lady, but also sounds like she has an obsessive personality. I personally don't allow my two cats to go outdoors at all, so my cat ownership is limited to the amount of indoor space I have in my home, which I think is pretty normal. How in the world does your mom even afford to take care of so many cats? And why was she "forced" to spay and neuter them? Wouldn't that be something that a responsible pet owner does anyway? Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. Like, don't let it take over your life.

Oh she wasn't literally forced but it was too hard keeping the males and females seperate during their heat. And they kept turning up pregnant. So she was basically forced.
She started out only with two females but didn't get them spayed in time. And then a few out of those litters got pregnant and so on and so on. She finally had no choice.
I know what ya mean about not letting your cats outside mine never o out either! But my Mom doesn't live near any busy roads so hers spend a lot of time outdoors.

Yes I can see that, but blowing off her grandchildren to do stuff with her cats, a bit extreme I think. I can't help but wonder if there were less of them if she wouldn't have more time for spending with her grandchildren Thanks for your comment.

Wow!!! 38, that is a bit much. I'm not particularly a cat person myself. I think that is because of my neighbors growing up as a child. They had at least 12 and they would always be in our yard, on our porch, everywhere but at her house. It was really annoying. Another bad cat story is when I was in college, I went over one of my friend's friend's houses before a party. She had one cat. The placed smelled terrible and there was cat feces all over. We sat down while she finished getting dressed and the cat came in the room and just started continuously jumping from one couch to another over our heads. It made me quite nervous and for that I really don't like to be around cats.
Now I know everyone does not let cat odor and things get out of control, but that was just the grossest thing. I think 38 cats is a lot, but as long as they are clean and she is caring for all of them. I guess she's not bothering anybody.

Oh yuck I hate cat smells. Its so gross when people don't keep up with the litter boxes or don't get the cat nietered so that it won't spray! That smell makes me GAG!!!!
She does take really good care of them and you really can't smell anything at her house like I said she bought a couple litter boxes that costed her around $100!!!! They like self clean or something! Pretty cool actually.
Sorry you have had such bad experiences with cats if they are taken care of properly and you keep up with the maintenience they are quite an enjoyable pet. And down right adorable!!!!
I'm not sure she hasn't "lost it" 38 is just so many!

Well, there is a condition called animal hoarding. It is when people want to "collect" as many of an animal as they can, but the difference between a hoarder and your mom is that your mom can take care of all the cats, a hoarder cannot. So as long as she can properly take care of all the cats, I don't see a problem with her having as many as she wants. Even though 38 seems like quite a bit. Another thing, it is only responsible to spay and neuter your pets, there are too many out there without homes that there is no need to create more and add to the problem. She might be able to care for a litter, but her time and effort would be better spent and appreciated if she would find homeless or unwanted kittens from the SPCA or shelter.

Sorry it took me so long to get around to replying to this lol, im on and off and all around lately so i've been missing some convos here and there.
I cant believe your mom has 38 cats! that's just like... i dont know! how does she manage to deal with so many? I do think that she has a few too many cats to be looking after all at once lol, has she considered what would happen to those cats if something (god forbid) happened to her?
Is she willing to downsize the amount of cats she has?
