When your kitchen sink stops up, what do you do?

Whenever my kitchen sink stops up, I automatically assume that some bits of food must be stuck in my drain, so I stick my fingers into the clog and fish it out. And, most times that fixes the problem and the water goes down in the sink. But that's a big difference from what I would had done five years ago. I was the worst when it came to fixing things. I didn't like to get my hands dirty. And, I certainly wouldn't have stuck my fingers into a drain. But, having a kid and cleaning up baby messes cured me of that phobia. So, now whenever I get a clog, I fix it myself. What do you do when your kitchen sink starts clogging up and the water won't go down? Do you grab the plunger? Call a repair man? Fix it yourself?

I've never really had a problem with my kitchen sink stopping up. I'm pretty careful about what I put in my sink. Anything that might have food bits or something like that, goes down the side of the sink with the garbage disposal. So it doesn't clog up. As far as if the bathtub drain starts moving slow, I tell my husband about it, and he takes care of it. He takes care of all of that kind of stuff when he's home. If he's not home, I just dump some liquid plumber down the drain.
