I have been trying to launch a website of my own . the main perpose of it will be marketing differnt products , not my own , only products of other companies .
My initial investment should be small . SO i am in search of a cheap but useful website host .In this process I have encountered the terms shared and dedicated servers . And most of time suggestion is made to avoid shared servers . But why ? What are the disadvantages of shared server compared to dedicated server ?
Thanks .

Advantages of a dedicated server over a shared server:
1. Basically you can install whatever applications you want.
2. You will have your own resources
3. You will get your own IP address
However, take note that with these advantages you will
need a lot of work to do and advance knowledge about
webservers since you will do all the maintenance, security, patch, etc. on the server.
Also with price comparison, a dedicated server maybe
10 times or more than a shared server

From your response may i guess that for starting in a small scale and as a non techie , a shared server will be suitable for me ?
