I just cannot resist myself to answer this one. At the risk of sounding like a doctor, I tell you that diabetic ppl can take fruits, if not profusely but certainly a bowl of freshly cut assorted fruits daily. But, avoid mangoes and grapes - these kind of help shooting up in the sugar level enormously.
So NO MANGOES ANS GRAPES.

Advised by dietician recently that most fruits are okay (in moderation accordingly or after a meal) but water melons are not good and to avoid.

I think they still can, as long as it's fresh. The most important nutrient in the treatment of diabetes is manganese which is vital in the production of natural insulin. It is found in citrus fruits, in the outer covering of nuts, grains and in the green leaves of edible plants. And also bananas and grapefruit are good for diabetics as long as you eat them in moderation and in rotation.

It depends upon the type i and 2 diabetics a person has.My father has diabetics but he has a very strict control over diet and takes immense care in controlling the sugar level. As per doctors advise he takes a banana not a very sweet one and offcourse the guava which is not much riped, papaya fruit.

why can't diabetics take fruits?they can, infact they should.for a person who is diabetic, fruits with low glycaemic index is required.they need to eat fiber-rich fruits like watermelon, strawberries, papaya, plums, muskmelon.as they have a low glycaemic index they helps to control blood sugar levels by gradually increasing it that is higly beneficial to diabetes.fresh lime also helps by provoding vitamins and minerals.
the fact is diabetic persons should take raw fruits than juices because raw fruits contain fiber that is mostly needed.and one glass of juice contain the sugar of lots of fruits which can increase blood sugar level.banana, grapes, mango, chikoo, custard apple must be avoided as they have high sugar content.
so the question isn't to take fruits or not.it should be what to take and what not.for diabetes its really important to maintain a balanced diet and the person should take fruits according to the body's requirement.moreover fruits contain fructose in them which doesn't need insulin for its metabolism and is well-tolerated.so diabetics can eat fruits like normal people but with a certain control on it.

Its very complecated but on the surface no. They should not eat sugar. What my dad does is he measures his blood sugar before eating something and then measures it after. this way he figures out if it affects his blood sugar level. It also depends on what you'v e been eating. etc. the best thing to do is talk to your docter.

The body digests these natural sugars different from refined sugars that are added to processed foods, so diabetics can have them. But they must watch how much they eat, because eventually this will raise their blood sugar level as well.

I think it depends on the person. I can eat some fruit and so can my husband. Also some fruits are better then others. It is better to eat an orange or an apple then to drink the juice. Grapes make our blood sugar go real high so we don't eat them often. If my sugar is running too high I don't eat much fruit till I get it down. Fresh fruit is much better then the canned fruit. But if I'm going to eat canned fruit I get it light and not in the heavy syrup.

In the life, a lot of diabetes patients think that the fruit contains the sugar high, edible affect the blood sugar stability behind, will aggravate the condition. In fact this is know the mistake area, the sugar imply in the fruit is in addition to glucose, fructose, the ZHE sugar, still ising equal one part to exist with many sugar forms, if gum, the meal fiber, the human body absorbs to the fruit fum and the meal fiber slowly, even not absorb.
so ,the adequacy eats some peaches, pomelos. hawthorns, strawberries, the duck pear ...etc. that contains the fruit gum, the meal fiber to enrich, will not cause the significant motion of blood sugar.
