can you help me how to take care of my dog / myLot

On my last birthday my friends gave me a gift and it was a dog, the problem is I don't know what kind of food I should fed him because it was my first time to have a dog.

I think if you give your little dog a variety of food he will show what he lokes, give him a mixture of canned dog food, a bit of fresh meat and maybe some doggy treats, dogs and cats are not that bad at letting you know what they like but I think the canned dog food is good as they do add the right nutrients for a dog...
