have you ever been a victim? i just got a call from the credit card company. they are cancelling my card, appearently at one place that i used it someone is copying the numbers down of people's credit card and using it. they never used mine though but they are canceling it anyway just to be safe. but they refuse to tell me where. i think i should have the right to know so i can decide weather i want to shop there again or not.
this really sucks though good thing i just filled up on gas or else i wouldn't be travelling to school at all next week.

Yes, I have. Someone went to another town and bought approximately $1000 total at about 3 different stores. We did not even know the card was missing. Luckily, we did not owe for it and never found out who used it. I am real lucky that is all they did because we didn't know it until the statement showed up.

No I've never encountered this in which I'm very glad of but am very careful in shredding all of my important documents so that no one can get a copy of my account numbers. I'd like to point out that maybe the reason they won't tell you the place that this inccident happend at is because it's not the store's fault but rather who they have working there and once they know about the dirty deed, I'm sure the person was fired. No one can know, per sae, who is going to do what or what is on their minds til they hire them so don't blame the store.

Yeah I but it was a case where someone was using are check number at the bank we used to be at to buy stuff online with the check number.I was checking our bank statement and saw some unusual activity that I know we never spent that much on that day.Thank goodness I caught it before it kept on.The bank reimbursed us back and was investigating who did it.I think we should have had the right to know who did it but my husband said to dont worry about it the bank would take care of it in the investigating who did it and that they had reimbursed us so not to worry about it.I dont know if the person or persons had found a check my husband might have lost in the store or what but its scary .But I still worry about it because its scary and sad to know thier is peope that are like that and not honest and dont care if the person might need the money they work for.But that is why I dont like my husband usuing debit cards at the fast food restaraunts,or places that they can scan and copy stuff.Wal-mart though you can scan it yourself so its a little more secure I hope.

Hmm... that is very dangerous then... But, your credit card company at least has taken some prompt action to protect you. Often I don't see credit card companies doing enough to protect it's customers and in fact take them for a ride. That way you should be happy.
I think these kind of frauds are getting very common these days, though I have not yet been a victim just yet!!
Cheers!

i received a call sometime last week from "someone from visa". he told me that being a visa card holder with good credit standing, i was eligible for their privilege card. thinking that it was a legitimate call, i gave him several information about myself and my card when he asked me for them.
then, he started asking about the last 3 digits found at the back of my credit card. that was when i realized that it was a scam. i didn't give him the last 3 digits and told him that even the bank from which i got my credit card doesn't ask me for that information.
i think he knew then that i already know he's a fraud so he hung up on me.
after that call, i immediately called my bank and had my card blocked and replaced. i told them what happened and they told me that it was a good thing that i didn't give him the last 3 digits. it was really a scam. so they blocked and cancelled my credit card just to be sure.

I have had my card cancelled as well. I think they are trying to keep us from having problems that is why they cancell the card. I was lucky I had another card I could use til I got my new card. Someone apparently got my credit card number and went on line and made several purchases by putting in different experation dates till they hit the right one. My credit card company caught it and called me to make sure I was not making the purchases. When I told them no that is when we decided to cancell the card. They issued me a new card and it only took about three days to get the new one. I am sorry you are inconvenienced because of someone taking your number. However, I am glad that the credit card company caught it so fast. I think that they should tell you where the problem was but my credit card company did not tell me either. It may be a company policy but as long as I am not charged for someone elses purchases I am happy. I hope everything works out for you and you do not have any more troubles with your credit card.
