i got a filling today at 2:30p and its almost 7p. dentist said the numbing would wear off in a coupld of hours and i would be able to eat/ drink regularly. The numbing did wear off but now it hurts, my whole cheek seems to hurt and i can't eat anything on that side of my mouth. is this normal?

It can be. Did the doc give you anything for pain? If not, try what you usually take for a headache or other pain.
You might also try an icepack on the side that hurts. Or a bag of frozen peas. I know, it sounds goofy...but frozen peas in the bag will form to fit the jawline better than most other things I've seen.
If you still can't eat on that side in 24 hours, I'd call the dentist. His answering service should be able to get in touch with him and someone call you back.
Hope you feel better! :)
