How often do you go through your CD collection and thin it out?

You know how it is, you have this collection of CDs and one day you realize that you never listen to half of them. So how often do you go through and "thin the herd" and what do you do with the ones you decide to eliminate from the selection?
I tend to go through once every couple of years. And the ones that get removed tend to go to the local used CD store where I use the credit to buy more CDs.

I thin my cds out once every few years. I should do it more often if I just thought about it. I give the cds I no longer want to anyone that wants them. If I can't find anyone, they go to the thrift store.

Oh. That's easy. NEver. I don't know, for me things like movies and cd's are just things that I never want to get rid of. Even if I never listen to it. Even if I never watch it...I just can't lose it! Fortunately my CD collection doesn't really grow much anymore. My VHS collection I will get rid of probably, when I get those videos on DVD. My DVD collection, on the other hand, constantly grows and I have no intentions on ever weeding it down!

I usually take out what i havent listened to in awhile and store them in tubs in my closet, then every so often i go back through that and listen to the "oldies". i have 2 girls so i figure one day they might want to know what mom listened to so im saving it for them. Kinda corny i know and they probably wont even be interested lmao.

I never thin my collection out. One of these days I might just have too though, before they start consuming me or something. The ones I don't particularly play anymore generally get put in the bottom shelves of my cd stands or in tubs under my bed. You never know when you just want to pull out one of those old ones again and have a listen for some reason.

Hello wiccania, Yes I agree with you, I have a lot of CD collections and I never listen most of them anymore. I go through them once or twice a year just to check, clean them and return into their chest box, but I never thin them out. Most of my collections I have already compiled on my computers media player so there is where I listen to them usually. :-)

Oh dear, this discussion makes it completely obvious to me just how much I am a hoarder. Shh, don't tell anyone, I still have all the CDs I have ever owned, including the first two singles I bought myself at 15!
I would like to thin down my collection, but I just love them all! I find that putting them on brings back good memories of my life.

i used to have alot and alot of cd, but i stop buying them because you can download them now and burn your own cd, so i sold all my cd at the local used cd store, and download and burn whatever music i need, i do buy cd, but they are like collectible one.

Not nearly often enough, sadly. I have a stack of the CDs that we have bought since we moved, because our CD racks are all completely full, as are our CD binders (for the CDs that we got rid of the cases already). But when you have two music lovers in the same apartment, it does get a bit ridiculous. :)

I haven't thinned mine out for a while, but I think we usually do that about once a year or so. We thinned it out last before we moved.

I guess I'm a horrible packrat. I never thin the herd!
At some point we always end up listening to all of them. We play them for our son's friends when we are discussing music. We have a nostaligic moment at other times.

Hi Wiccania, until today I have never done it, butthank you for bringing uphow you handle it. I will try to do the same thing and will bring all the once that I am never listening to to the local used CD store. Thanks for the good idea!
