Actually, I've gotten quite used to being home alone at night, since my husband has worked nights for many years. Even as a child, I was often home alone at night thanks to partying relatives, so I guess I've always been used to it.
I'm never completely alone now, since I have a 15-month-old son. So if I heard footsteps, the first thing I would do is check on him, which is easy since his crib is still in my bedroom. After that, I would get my cell phone (in case I need to call for help) and something that can be used as a weapon, and check each room of the apartment. I would make sure to close my bedroom door as I left the bedroom, so I would hear if it was opened and someone went in there where my son was. We have several weapons at various places in our apartment, and I've survived fights with people bigger than me before, so I'm actually pretty confident I could take down an intruder if I had to. =P

When I'm alone at nighttime first of all I close the principal door and all the windows carefully. Then I turn on one or two lights in the house, I keep the television or the radio lit all the night to have a kind of company and to conclude I keep near the telephone for every necessity. As you can see I'm not fearful at all ;)))))!!

To me, home is the safest place all the time. If I were alone at home during night time, normally I would most probably sit in front of my computer and busy with mylot. I do enjoy watching tv in the meanwhile. I have never faced any horrible situation so far while I’m alone at home even when power failure should happen at night unless if I were in any other unfamiliar places.

Hi there. I have been home alone a couple of times when our children have stayed over night with family, and husband has to work nights... Instead of relaxing and having time to myself, I prefer to get busy, cleaning things that are already clean lol, if you know what I mean, if I were to hear footsteps, I wouldnt panic, I would calmly grab the baseball bat or some kind of weapon to whack them out, then I would tie them up and call the cops... The only time that I have been startled is when our dog wouldnt stop growling, and I know the difference between growling at a cat and growling at a prowler or person, this makes me think again, because they could be anywhere outside and the worse thing, I cant see them... But it was just walker byers in the street, it did give me a little fright though when I hear our dog growl like that, at the same time I can stay calm in situations...

I am alone at home at night so much that I really don't think about such things. I work alone at night in a convenience store and I close alone and have been for years. I'm a single mom and as I write my daughter is with her dad and I am alone. Im in a busy and noisy area and so the footsteps and noises are common and don't bother me at all. I am guessing you must live in a very rural area?

hii sid556 i don't live in a rural area.infact i live in the heart of the city.but the fact is its not a metro city so after midnight people don't come out.so the streets look abandoned and without noise.that can be scary at times.

actually i live alone at home, day and night, but i live near by the traffic road,it makes too much noise.so i always watch TV or online at home,if you can't go to sleep, you can call your friends, talking something interesting, and make some plan for the other day, just mkae youself calm and happy.as long as locking the door, you needn't worry about the noise.

I am use to living alone and stay by myself at night. I have not experience such thing yet. But perhaps if I do, I would stay calm, observe and if i sense danger I would call for help. Use my cell phone perhaps.

Sometimes I stay home alone at night, only if I don't feel like going out with friends, so my husband will go in my place. It's not bad to be alone, sure it can be scary, but I have a cat to keep me company. The footsteps could probably be the sound from outside or next door. I know it get's scary, but what you can do, is go online, maybe my lot a little. Watch a funny movie that will keep you laughing instead of scared, and enjoy the alone time you are getting. Sometimes we need some alone time and some time to just take care of number one. Get what I mean? You will be fine.

Being alone at home isn't as scary as wat we think it is.. Sometimes alone at home will give u the peace that u ever needed and the freedom to do wat u wanna do. Sudden sound within a peaceful place is indeed shattering but no matter wat, its still our home. A home which ple refers to home to sweet home.
