If so, what was one of your most memorable places to visit there?
We have recently just come back to New Jersey to spend more time with our Online friends, after being in New York City for 3 days. What a city and experience that was. Truly one I will never forget. I could write so much on NYC I am sure.
Well, we seen a lot of the many interesting sites that a Visitor there would want to see. But overall, if you ask me what some of the Best things I have seen, I would have to say Ground Zero and the Statue of Liberty. Yes, the other places and things I have seen while I was there was fantastic but these other 2 are things that will always forever make people proud of New York City and what they have to offer.

I have been to New York City one time. It was two years after 911. My daughter was 19 and we drove to New York City. I had this great need within me to visit ground zero, and see the Statue of Liberty. My daughter was a senior in high school, spending her lst semester of her senior year studying in Europe on 911. It was very emotional for her to see ground zero. I went to this little chapel that was near by. It had been set up as a place for rescue workers to come and rest, get a bit to eat. They had an amazing display at the chapel. We spend 2 hours their. It was sad, but also made one feel proud. We had a wonderful time. The people of New York City were wonderful. I was so glad to have seen the statue of liberty. I thought of the poem that I have students in my class memorize, "Give me your huddles masses yearning to be free, your tired your poor...". We went to Ellis Island. I found the ship's manifest that had the signature of my great grandmother who I am named after. I bought a copy of it to bring back to my great aunt, (her only remaining child alive). Being in New York City was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I have traveled all over Europe, but I had never been to New York City. It was to me a pilgrimage that I needed to go on.

Well, being there at Ground Zero and being at the Chapel, etc. was a very memorable experience, and truly one I will never forget. You just sit there in awe amazed that NYC was able to pick themselves back up from this, and become the Great City it is today. Personally I feel they as people have a lot to offer people and I cannot wait to get there and visit again.

Yes I had been there twice. Now my neice is working as a cancer specialist in Brooklyn Hospital. I stayed for one month in NYC (at YMCA) near Penn Station. I had seen most of the public places in New York, UN, Empire, World Trade Centre, long Islands, Statute, National History Museum, Central Pak etc. Of course wall street. It is a great place to visit.

Though US history is of recent orgin (just 300 years old), the people have built up the country so well, every city offers wonderful sights for tourists. I had been to Flordia, St. Louis, Chicago, all are wonderful places. Hope one of these days you will make it a point to visit New York. I always tell all my friends, if you have not visited US you have not visited any foreign country.

Well, Ground Zero was definately an experience. One for sure I will never forget. I still cannot believe that they are going to build something else there. To me, it may not always do it the justice it deserves. And seeing the Statue of Liberty from a distance like I did was awesome. You really need to get there sometime if you ever can. These are sites of a lifetime.

How was it visiting online friends? That is a fascinating subject in and of itself!
I love New York, but I have not been there since 9/11 happened. I have so many wonderful memories of being there. One in particular that was very nice was a trip I took with an old boyfriend. We went out to eat with friends and decided to go to Little Italy for dessert. While we were having dessert in the tiny cafe, an opera singer (man) stood up and performed an Italian song. It was just lovely and really capped off a lovely evening. A lot of people are afraid of big cities, but I can feel my pulse race and heart start beating when I arrive in NY; it really is a city that makes me feel alive!

I think sometimes I forget how nice this city is because I live here and see it everyday. Ground zero I try to stay away from because I lost many friends there and the Statue Of Liberty is an incredible sight. I don't think people realize how big she is until they see it in person. I am glad you got to see her. Did you go on the Statue Of Liberty island or did you see her from a sightseeing boat?

Thank you for your kind words. As for Lady Liberty doesn't she make you feel so proud to be an American when you see her in person. I know I get that feeling.

I have never been there. I would like to go to New York City and see the Empire States Building and Times Square. We went through the States in Fall, but we were mainly on the interstate, and the only large city we went through was Boston, my husband did not want to go through any large cities. I heard so much from watching the movies and of course 9/11. And I watch the cooking shows where they show certain restaurants, and it sounds like such a marvelous place. If we decided to live there, though, it would be in a residential area, but I do not know because the places are rather settled according to ethnic communities so where do the Low German,Dutch - German/English/Welsh people live there?:)

There are a lot of nice places to visit in New York City but I haven't been there for 42 years. I lived in NYC as a child for 8 years and found it to be an exciting city to live in. However, now I would not care to live in such a crowded city anymore.

yes, i was in NY before 911..the summer..and got great shots of the twin towers..they were so majestic..
took the boat ride to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
My Uncle Stanley was 83 but he was a retired Park Ranger and when we got off the boat with my wife and his wife (our neice) Stanley was greeted by the Park Rangers and escorted us to the VIP line and got ahead of the crowd..I was shocked as they put in front..we never asked for this..but up the elevator and the stairs and their was three women..my wife, her neice and her aunt..but Stanley and I climbed the spiral staircase to the top and we looked out of the head of the statue...i was most impressed and took pictures..Stanley fought in WWII and he said the French buildings and underground forts looked just like the inside of this staircase..spiral staircase..Germans call this the Siegfield Line but the French had Maganot? line..same thing i guess..
but i like this and Coney Island and of course Nathans Hot dog as my neice brenda worked their part time..free food..lol..i like a good hot dog..too..
We rode the subways as we had a good guide..and Stanley is also a City of Brooklyn Ny Fire CHIEF and in his Firemens Chief CAR he could partk anywhere...anywhere no matter what the sign was..no tickets..lol..but sadly Stanley passed away at 83+ and His wife just turned 50..but they had a big party at the Plaza Hotel but we were invited but did not go...but a lot of Politicians (senators showed up)
and once Stanley took me to see Hilary Clinton..as this was her state she was senator in..but she did not show..and i was ok with me..lol..as i seen Nixon, Bush Senior, Phyliss Diller and Jerry Lee Lewis and that is enough for me...lol..but I could have seen Elvis in Omaha but did not..that was one concert I wished I would have seen..1977? well it was too hot for me that day..have a nice day..
New York was nice and friendly but I am from the midwest and I don't even like Chicago or Detroit either..lol and i live close to them..
I am a small town boy..

Yes, I've been to New York City, but my trip may not be what you are looking for. I went in 1964 and the best thing I saw was the World's Fair. It was the neatest thing I had ever seen and there was so much to see. I will never forget it. As far as the thing I enjoyed the most that is still there, it would have to be the view from the top of the Empire State Building. Being from a place where the tallest buildings are only 3 or 4 stories high, that was a revelation to me! It was gorgeous.
