Do you have a habit of buying the same kind of car? If so, why?

I do. My last three cars, have been Chevy Cavaliers. I had such good luck, with the first one that I bought, that I couldn't bring myself, to buy a different kind, the next two times. I bought a 1994 purple cavalier, and I drove it til it had 145 thousand miles, on it, and never did any major work in it, whatsoever. I found myself wanting a new car, so I gave that one to my son, and bought a new 2000 Cayenne colored one. My son put an additional 100,000 miles on the purple one, in the meantime. It was having some problems by then, and it was only a second car for him, and he sold it, and it was still being driven, several months later, by the person that bought it. I started wanting another new car, so I bought a 2004 black one, with a pin stripe on it. It wasn't my first choice of color(I wanted, either pink, orange, or yellow), but I got the best deal on this one. Anyway, I gave my youngest son, the Cayenne red one, and I'd bet, it would still be running, if he hadn't fell asleep at the wheel, and totaled it. Oh, well, at least he made it out safe. So, does anybody else, have this habit?

And I thought I was the only weird one in this world. lol Ever since I bought my first Ford Escort back in 1992, I've always ended up buying another. To this day I still drive an Escort, a 2002 ZX2 coupe. My next car will be a Ford Fusion since they replaced the escort and I was assured they are built the same. Only difference really is they are a lil wider and longer than the Escort.

After have 2 bad experiences with American made cars, my mom quit buying them. She got a Honda Accord instead. That was one GREAT car, she sold it to me when it went past its warrenty & got another one. She had to quit driving it & my brother drove it until recently. He got the Toyota from a friend of Mom's because she had to stop driving too just a few weeks ago & sold the Honda to one of his employees. When I had to replace the lemon that I had gotten from mom, I got an '84 Mazda 323 that was a really good car. I then got her Accord & then bought an Odyssey.

I passed this discussion up like 3 times. Because, I've had three cars and they've all been different. BUT THEN! I saw "Chevy Cavalier" and "good luck" I just *had* to comment! I've had 3 cars. As I said. They've all been different...as I said. I believe I have horrible "Car Karma". My first car was a 1995 Hyundai Elantra (bought in the December of 1999). It was black and four doors and cost 4,000, which at the time was most important. A year and a half later I was in a car accident and while the car was in the shop getting fixed... the shop burned down and I was out of a car! So quickly I had to buy a new car. In October 2001... I bought a 2000 black Chevy Cavalier. It was a little more up-to-date but still basic black and 4 doors... my staples for a car! Almost 4 years to the day of my car accident with my hyundai I was in a car accident that ended up totalling my Chevy. This time I decided I need to get something a little different. I only like black cars and I hate two doors so what do I do? In September of 2005 I bought a brand new (my other cars were used) Mazda 3 Hatchback (5 doors!) in Black Mica (not just black!). So far...So good. It was damaged in a parking garage (swerved to avoid being hit by a car) and funny enough while it was in the shop I had a rental... first I got a chevy aeveo or some crap. I hated that car and it didn't lock so I traded it in the next day...and they gave me A chevy COBALT (which is a chevy cavalier) instead. I was a little bothered by this. 2 days later I was in a car accident and totalled that rental. When I had to replace that car with a new rental cause my car was still in the shop... they tried to give me another cobalt and I refused it. Took a dodge neon instead (the car I learned how to drive in!)...otherwise no problems yet with my not just black 5 door brand new car! I've never kept the tags for any of my cars. Each time I get a car it has to be different because I think I have bad car Karma... and I think Chevy Cavaliers/Cobalts/ any form of that car...is the devil! Which is why it's funny that you think quite the opposite of me. I've had nothing but bad luck! and just an FYI, none of those car accidents were my fault. and they were pretty big flukes. I've been in way too many car accidents...I probably shouldn't even DRIVE!

You poor thing. It does sound like you have bad car karma. lol Too bad you're not rich, you could invest in a chaufeur. Hopefully one that has good car karma, that way you could even each others karma out. lol Take care.

I learned to drive in drivers training in a Pontiac Grand Am. My first car was a 1992 Black Pontiac Grand Am. My second car was a purple 1996 Pontiac Grand Am. I then finally got something different when I bought my 2001 cherry red Ford Mustang. I had that for 2 whole months and a tv crew slammed into me after they ran a red light. It was totalled and I was really upset. I ended up getting a 1999 white Pontiac Grand Am that I drove for a couple of years. I only got that because I was going through a divorce and wanted a cheap car payment. Now I own a 2004 dark grey Dodge Neon.

I've never bought the same car. I like to try different things. Actually in a way I did buy the same car I used to drive. When I was young my mother bought a Mercury Cougar. She had that car for 13 years. When I commuted to college she gave me that car to drive. We loved that car it was a great car. I can count on one hand and have fingers left over how many times the car had been in the shop for anything major. We were actually a little upset when we had to get rid of it (gave it to charity) My first new car was a Nissan 200sx. To make a long story short it ended up being a lease only I didn't know it and had to turn the car in after four years. My second new car is a Mercury Cougar because I loved the first one so much. I will drive it until it falls apart. After that not sure what I will get. They stopped making the Cougar. I want a Lexus or Mercedes but that will be a long long time from now.
