GUIDING LIGHT
MVP: Beth Ehlers
This show has become a factory for powerhouse actresses. Tognoni, Chappell, and Zimmer have each boasted some of the year's strongest performances. This month, Beth Ehlers got her chance to shine as she discovered Gus's affair with Natalia and created a pretty unbeatable reel for herself during the after effects. Few actresses are as smart as Ehlers when she's given strong material, and she knocked it right out of the ball park. Reserve a spot for her on that pre-nomination ballot right now, because she deserves it.
Most Frustrating Storyline: Coop/Ashlee/ Ava
This was our most frustrating story because of the fact that the differences in Ashlee and Ava's appearance weren't being mentioned whatsover, side-stepping a potential goldmine of dramatic material. However, lately, this seems to be coming to the forefront a little more, so we'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. We're rooting for Coop and Ashlee to become a long-term couple and hopefully the show won't drop the ball.
Most Entertaining Couple: Alex and Cyrus
Marj Dusay makes everything a little more interesting. Her arranged marriage with badboy Cyrus has been entertaining and light on the surface, but menacing and dangerous just under the surface. Murray Bartlett and Dusay have some great chemistry and we love that GL is doing these non-traditional couples and doing them so well.
Worst Moment: Reva Hurls Herself at Olivia's Car
We were loving the Reva vs. Olivia feud until they totally jumped the shark, with Reva throwing herself into Olivia's car to pretend Olivia had run her over. Even worse, she pulled the stunt during her sister's wedding. Not too cool.
Most Surprising Chemistry: Jordan Clarke and Marcy Rylan
Marcy Rylan has grown leaps and bounds this year as an actress and Lizzie's unlikely friendship with Jordan Clarke's Billy character has been one of the most compelling things around. Each of them matches the other line-for-line and their father/daughter- esque chemistry is extremely enjoyable.
TVGuide:
My new TV guide issue arrived today and I always turn to the back to the soap news - catch recaps for the week before - which would be for this week and there's usually a couple short articles about one of the shows and even about some of the actors. Well in this new issue there's a little item written by Michael Logan about Kim Zimmer and a possible upcoming story for Reva. The name of the item is: "Weighty Plot" and it says GL's Reva, K.Z., has come back from the dead. She's been cloned. She's even time-traveled to Nazi-occupied France. But Zimmer, winner of four Emmys, may be heading for her greatest suds challenge yet..... losing weight. Spies tell me the zaftig diva has been approached by NutriSystem to use its food plan to shed her excess baggage in a GL story line. A show rep confirms the offer but says no deal has been reached.
Backstage Buzz By Danielle McClure
Follow Digest on to the set for behind-the-scenes moments.
Danielle McClure: GL cast and crew including vets Kim Zimmer (Reva), Justin Deas (Buzz) and Beth Ehlers (Harley) surprised Frank Dicopoulos (Frank) last week with bubbly and cake to commemorate his 20th anniversary on the show. Dicopoulos joined GL in 1987 and has been on the show continuously ever since. The actor was thrilled by the unexpected fate. "I’m so happy," Dicopoulos smiled. "I love what I do. I love the show so much. It just goes on and on and on. I'm blown away right now. I was surprised."
In Person
**Back when Robert Newman (Josh) briefly left GL to appear in a play, he was spotted by an admiring fan who was the lunch companion of a vacationing friend of mine. My friend, Patti, approached him at his table and asked politely if he might be able to say hello to her very excited young friend. Not only did he graciously do so, but he conversed with their group of four far longer than they expected, gave them his autograph, posed for pictures and said he hoped they could see his play! Those girls (both handicapped, by the way, and one being a much more avid fan than the other) were just thrilled and Patti, who isn't a soap-watcher, was extremely impressed with the kindness of "Josh."

Going To The Chapel
Wedding bells are ringing for GL’s Lawrence Saint-Victor (Remy) who is set to wed his fiance’ Shay Flake on Saturday at a golf resort in Garrison, New York. "The place kind of decorates itself. It's got that old kind of flavor with tons of personality so you don't have to do that much to it," the actor shares. "It's a [morning to afternoon] wedding so the sunlight is out. It's going to be nice and bright."
Among the 140 guests expected to attend are co-stars Yvonna Wright (Mel) and John Driscoll (Coop). "Everything's down to the wire!" says the groom-to-be. The newlyweds will celebrate their weeklong honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. "I can't wait," he adds.
