I an 25 and have two children 3 and 5. I have decided that for right now I dont want any more kids. I cant afford one right now. I was looking for diffrent birth control options. I take the Depo shot right now. I hate having to remember to go get it. Im not good with pills, they make me sick. So I asked my doc about getting my tubes tied. She said because of my age the doctors wont do it. She told me about Mirena. Its a little device they put in your uterus and it prevents pregnancy for 5 years!! No surgery. It can be removed any time you decide you want to have kids. It wont make you gain weight, makes your period lighter or stops it, it isnt detectable by you or your partner. Its made of flexable plastic. What do you all think about this? Has anyone used it?

Hi copperkitten. This Mirena seems like a great idea. The one thing I do like about the depo shot is that it takes your periods away, BUT when you go off of it and start trying for another it can take quite a while for your system, cycle, and ovulation to get back to normal! If you can't take pills and are having a hard time remembering shots then I would go for it! When I was on the depo shot I always wrote down on the calendar when I was due for my next shot, that way I wouldn't forget.

I do write it down but I get busy and forget or dont have a way to get there. I think im going to try it. If I dont like it they can remove it and ill go back to the shots.

Sounds like a plan hun. As you said if you don't like it it can be easily removed and then you can go back to the shots! Sounds easy and fair enough!

I'd rather have my tubes tied. It's a more permanent option and that's exactly what I want. A PERMANENT option. My only concern is that my severe cramps will come back if I get my tubes tied and go off the pill. A co-worker was even telling me that hers came back. *sigh*

It might be permanent and non-surgical, but my cramps still might return, so that's still a concern. *sigh* It does look like a better option, though. I'll have to ask about it.

I asked the doc that. If you have your tubes tied your periods will come back in full effect! Thats why Im chosing this. Its just like having your tubes tied only not so permenent.

I have never heard of that nore as my doctor said anything about that to me.. I am not sure if I would want that in me though.. I mean what if they can't remove it than what or if it were to cause cancer.. Sometimes doctors don't tell the whole story either.. I use Lavora 28 and it works great, my cycles aren't long at all 3-4 days and very light I can eat like a pig lol and not gain any weight.. I can't take the shots because i am a smoker and the doctor did tell me it will cause me harm so that was out of the question..

It can be removed whenever you want. It lasts for 5 years but if you decide to have a baby they take it out, normal doctor visit, and you go go back to bing able to have kids. Or when the 5 years is up they take that one out and put in a new one.

I never had my tubes tied. The only time I took birth control was for 2 years before I married and stopped 6 months after I was married. My method of birth control was a diaphram and contraceptive gel. They worked very effectively for me. One time off them and I was preggers for my second. Stopped using the gels to get preggers for my twins.

I have not used it but it does sound better than getting a shot or having to take pills...Knowing that you can get it removed when you decide to have a child is nice because you don't have to wait to start trying to have a baby..I do hope this works for you..
