Can green tea really help with weight loss?

A friend of mine swears that since she's begun drinking green tea she has lost some weight. I'm not sure if it's the tea or the fact that she's been working out lately. Maybe both.
And, I'm wondering, can tea really help a person lose weight. I've been drinking black tea for years and never noticed that it helped me. I've heard that there are specialty Chinese teas that help detox the body and induce weight loss, but I don't know if they are safe.
I'm not really interested in a diuretic or something that will just get rid of water weight. Does anyone know if green tea can actually help with weight loss or speed metabolism. And, if so, how much does one have to drink daily for it to be effective?

i think, drinking a tea helps your metabolism becomes faster.. but i just don't know if green tea really helps in losing weight.. maybe it is because your friends is hooked up in the gym which is a good help in staying fit.. and at the same time, instead of drinking caloried drinks, she replaced it with green tea.

Because green tea and other types of teas are zero calorie? That makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

The one thing no one answered was, how much do you need to drink? I'd like to know the answer to this question as well. I have switched to drinking green tea a few weeks ago. No more sugar in my tea, so that has to help. I make a big bucket of it and put it in the fridge and it will last me all day. If we are lucky and have a sunny day, I make sun tea with it. By drinking green tea I have noticed that some foods no longer taste the same, as in snacks, which is good. I do seem to have more energy these days.

Preliminary evidence suggests that drinking green tea can increase energy expenditure (number of calories burned) and fat burning; hence, green tea in liquid or capsule form may be an effective way to aid weight loss. However, there are no conclusive studies that tea drinking has beneficial effects on weight loss. Still, tea is a satisfying, calorie-free beverage that can be substituted for sweetened beverages and is a delicious alternative to plain water in a healthy weight management plan.
But then, weight loss does not only mean taking in something that promised slimming. To sustain your weight loss program, you have to eat healthy and add exercise to your daily life.

I'm not really sure the green or black tea could help one lose weight, but they actually do something good to the body, and don't drink too much or too strong if you don't have a good stomach

Hrmm I would like to think that drinking green tea = something easy would help you loose weight. But it is in my opinion that it is only good hard old-fashioned work makes that weight drop off. It is a shame that loosing weight is as hard as saving money!
Although my mother has started drinking green tea instead of drinking coffee and has found that she has been loosing weight. Mind you she has changed her whole lifestyle too! She says that it helps her loose weight by giving her something to do with her time and her mouth instead of shoveling food in!
Maybe you will have to give green tea a trial for us and tell us how you progress?

No tea can break up the fat particles in the body. But tea in general can help breaking down the oil absorbed into the body and therefore it's less easy to get fat if people drink it often enough. Actually green tea has a very good anti-oxidating function and it could be drank daily. Since it's natural and not a kind of medicine, you can drink as much as you like (but depends on stomach situation, if people have stomachache often, they should avoid tea).

I love to drink green tea and black tea. I don't find that I am losing any weight. But there is some kind of tea saying that it can help lose weight to be sold in supermarkets. This kind of tea is called lose-weight tea. If tea can help lose weight, I am sure that more and more people would like to drink green tea to lose weight.
Ok, let me tell you something about bamboo shoot. I work and live in China Bamboo Town. It is said that bamboo helps a great deal in helping lose weight. I suggest that those who want to lose weight try bamboo to see its effect.

Yes, it can help loose the extra pounds. It did work for me. It is a very good antioxidant.
When I drinking it, my bowel movement was normalize, I can sleep better, I feel fresh everyday and I lost 2 pounds within 1 month. But you really have to watch your diet, because it won't do you any good to take this without doing some sacrifices.
This is a very healthy drink, it can help prevent cancer as well.

well i think green tea can help loss some (little) weight. the tea helps your body to be clean from the toxins and all dirty stuff inside your body?. but you also have to make an extra effort in losing weight not just by drinking tea or diet pills you have to exercise and eat the right food.
