What I did Saturday

So, we were having people out to the roomie's folks for a party to celebrate the 21st anniversary of a TV show called The Wizard.
We were waiting for the people to come in from Dallas & they had just called about 45 earlier to say they were leaving (we had expected them to leave about 2 hrs earlier!)
And I get a phone call from a friend's mom (who is actually closer to my age then the friend) telling me I needed to get over to her daughter's because Pixie is dying. Yes, Pixie is her cat.
I tell her I'm on my way. As I jump up and start running around getting what I need to drive back into town.
"What's wrong?" the roomie asks & I tell her.
So I'm about halfway there & she calls again & says that my friend wants to take her to the emergency vet, but needs me to drive - I tell her where I am & that I'll call her.
I get there & I have to say, that Pixie looks REALLY BAD. I grab a clean shirt, her purse & keys & lock the door behind her then run to the car & open the door so she can keep her hands on the cat.
I kid you not, I thought we lost her several times in the car - she had several seizures & seemed gone by the time we got there. But the tech took her back, they put an IV in & got some glucose started & she came right back.
Pixie is 13, has been diabetic since she was about 7. My friend called this morning & said she was going by to pet Pixie's little head, & that the vet wanted to keep her for a few more hours for observation.
The vet says she seems to be blind, but that happens a lot with these low blood sugar comas & seizures, but it will probably pass.
My friend is happy, & so are the rest of us.
So, if you pray or just think good thoughts, keep my friend & Pixie on your list. Might throw the roomie's dad on there too, he's having a minor surgical procedure soon.
And I, am going to go grab a few cats & lay down, I'm beat. I'd've never gotten home last night if I hadn't had a nap after the vet run before the company got to Austin. I'm sore & tired & going to lay down.

Wow. Gosh I'm so sorry to hear such a story! You're a wonderful friend to have done that for her. You're such a blessing to have for a friend and I'm sure your friend knows that. I'll say a prayer for your friend(s) and her cat and YOU as well.

You are a good friend to be take Pixie to the vet. I know it was not easy for you with your medical problems. I hope you are feeling well not.
I am a week late so I do not know what happened to Pixie and her mother. I hope they made out alright.

I did a couple of follow up discussions about Pixie & my friend's adventures at the emergency vets.
The follow up on Pixie is at:

That must have been very scary. I guess I'm kind of ignorant about cats because I didn't know they could be diabetic. I'll keep Pixie in mind because I would hate for anyone to go through the loss of a pet. I know it happens, but if it can be put off, then we all can love our pets just a little bit longer and create more memories.

I know the feeling of almost losing a pet but like Pixe,my pet survived also...i am glad that you got her to the hospital on time and at least she is ok...Its awful to go through all that...I had something interesting happen to me Saturday..Someone dropped off a cat in our neighborhood and she came to my house...Guess she saw we had pets so she came here..My hubby fed her and she has hung around. She is not a very old cat and she is a girl and very pretty and will let us pet her,she loves for us to stroke her.I got up this morning and she is still here, more friendly than yesterday, and was ready to eat.She has been eating all day long..I do not think she is lost because she has no collar, and she is very thin like she has not eaten in a long time, but she will soon gain weight with us feeding her..I suppose i have got a new cat,and i plan to have her nutered soon...I want to name her but have not figures out a cute name..I have though of "Annie" because she was abandoned like little orphen Annie..What do you think?

Well, I named Oliver because he was an orphan. I also talked to someone that had 2 orphan cats, Oliver & Annie. So, needless to say, I think its a good name, especially if she's a "red head."Smelling other cats is I think how come Taj at 4 weeks crawled up to my door.

How is the cat doing? Sounds like you had a busy day, you need to have some 'ME' time, look after yourself my friend, there is only ONE of you because you are unique.

Wow,that was a close call for Pixie. I sure am glad she's ok, now. I know that was very stressful, as I've been through those situations myself. It is even more stressful, when you don't make it to the vet in time. I will keep you all in my thoughts, and prayers, and hope Pixie's up prancing around again real soon.
