This pickle has soured! A year and a half ago I worked very hard at a contractor's property and am still waiting to get paid. Bob the so-called builder had been referring me to his customers for quite some time. Then he asked me to beautify a house he was working on so that he could put it on the market. Well, many things were not finished but he assured me all would be ready. Never again have I or will I work on a verbal agreement. Bob and I never had a problem prior to this...guess when it's his house, he thinks it's okay to rip me off. I even paid for all the materials...now that's a kick in the pants..over 1000.00 dollars!
Let me describe Bob a little for you. He is over 6 feet tall and very muscular..He works out 5 days week. A married, church every Sunday, father of 5 children, kind of man. Well, I got to see another side of Bob when sent him the bill. This job involved patching, sanding, caulking, priming and painting an entire house consisting of 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, 3 hallways, a large stairwell, a sunroom, kitchen, livingroom, family rm, dining room, foyer and back entry. I billed him for 2,900.00..keep in mind that I paid over 1,000.00 in paint and materials. Normally this job would be 6,000.00 + materials. This man left me 3 horribly cruel messages on my phone. I ended up putting a lien on the property because there was no talking to this guy again. I had to renew the lien this past May. There's another 80.00. Then he found a buyer and saw the liens, and sicked a lawyer on me, threatening me in a stupid letter. I responded and gave them some time to pay me...no reply. So based on their deadline for me to remove the liens I had no choice but to file in small claims court. There goes another 190.00 and 45.00 for the sheriff to serve Bob the notice. Court is this Monday morning. Saturday sfternoon, I received a notice form the sheriff that Bob avoided him like the plague after 8 attempts to give him the notice.
Is this a good thing? I will be in that courtroom with my letter from the sheriff, pictures of my work at the property, the nasty bullying voice messages, and other details regarding delays placed upon me throughout the job time. Does anyone know what happens when an idiot, avoids getting served like this? If he is so upset about the liens and thinks he's so right, I would think he would gladly want to go to court. Ha, he knows he is sooo wrong for doing this to me. Any other advice on Monday's court date would be greatly appreciated.
