Getting smell out of Microwave

A couple of nights ago my husband almost started a fire in the Microwave. It was microwave french fries and I think he hit the wrong button. Anyway there is now the worst burnt smell - we have tried several cleaners and left the door open but it is still lingering very heavily. Anyone have any suggestions?

i recently had a similar problem. my husbands friend put a travel mug with metal in our microwave and it had a horrible burnt rubber smell. we cleaned it out with simple green. i then combined baking soda with water and cooked it for one minute and left it in the microwave overnight. there was still a smell so i combined a fresh batch of baking soda with water and orange essential oil and nuked it for another 45 seconds. i didn't want to boil it. i let it cool and added a little more water and did the same routine again, again leaving it in the microwave overnight. slowly the smell did dissipate. good luck.

Thanks so much I will try this tonight. I thought of baking soda to absorb the smell but never thought of nuking it. Oh I hope this works I won't heat anything in there because I don't want our food to have that smell. THANKS

Always try to cook something pleasant or savory in your microwave to get rid of the bad smell! I often will cook some simple stew or boil tea or coffee in the microwave to get rid of unpleasant smells. I love the smell of coffee, and also make little coffee bags and put in the freezer!
