Would you travel around the world if you had the chance to?

Do you feel stranded so to say where you are living? And is it bothering you that you travel way less than you would have liked to be able to? This is the biggest bother in my life, and hope to get the possibility to travel all around the world, and soon, while I am still young and in a reasonably fit shape. Most people start their travelling around when they retire, but I do not wish to wait that long, and travelling when not fit and healthy enough. What about you, and what would it take for you to make the longest travel of your life? And is it the work you have stopping you, and not be able to afford it, or some other reason?

Of course I want to travel around the world if there's really is a chance and there's lots of money to spend for it. I want to see for myself the people, their culture, and experience a different environment in other countries. I already have been to Singapore twice, been to Indonesia, Malaysia and recently Canada. The expenses were paid by family - sisters, brother, my hubby. I still want to see other countries in asia like Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, India. I like to go to USA and Australia. I'd like to have European tour. I really wish I have all the money to afford these travels, or at least to have some sponsors for these travels... haha....I wish all these dreams come true. Wish that you could travel around the world friend.

Oh I'm not really well-travelled GrandPa... just been to 4 countries only. Just stayed couple of weeks in Malaysia. Singapore trip, I stayed for almost a month when my hubby, sis and brother were still working there. Singapore is just a small country, a mixture of Malay, Chinese, Indian races there. I just stayed in Canada for 1 month, but its a big country and I didnt have the chance to see all the places there. I guess several months or a year is required to be able to learn the culture, people and way of life in certain countries. Thanks for your comments GrandPa Bob. Happy Posting...

Hi Joyce959 and GP Bob, and thank you for your contributions :) Well, I do agree with both that for especially the big countries one needs a lot of time to be able to see all of it's beauties, BUT, thsi will make all of us wishing to see the world perpetual travelers. And this is something that it isn't for everyone I think. Let's say that you only have been given 1 to a maximum of 2 years to see the world, or most of it. Would you or wouldn't you do it? It costs a bit of planning and priorities but it definitely can be done.

I would travel around the world if I could. I cannot afford it right now, and I doubt I ever will be able to afford it. That's just common sense for me. But if I had the money to travel in a way that would make it easy on my health, I'd do it in a heart beat.

I used to travel a lot when I was working. Now that I am a stay at home wife, I don't travel. We stay in-country for our vacations. I would love to travel the world but that is just not possible on our income.

Well there is still plenty of time for you my friend, and I wish you luck with your ambitions. Most people here in the UK do their travelling when they are still quite young - taking "gap years" between School and University, or after Uni and before starting their career. And we go travelling/back-packing all over the world, in much the same way as so many kids from Australia and New Zealand go their great European Tour when they are young. For me, the chance and opportunity to travel is the greatest gift in the world, and one which our generation and those in the future, have got, and which our ancestors did not. I've been pretty much everywhere in the world - all over Europe, the Middle East, the States, South and Central America, South Africa and New Zealand among other places. I have also lived and worked in other countries, which obviously gives you a much better perspective than just going on holiday. I do not regret one moment of my travels - to me, travel broadens the mind in a way that nothing else can. It lets you see close-up so many different cultures and people, and helps you understand what makes other people "tick" and to become a more well-rounded person. Staying in one place all your life narrows things down so much - you only live once - spread your wings and enjoy it! You certrainly won't regret it! Thanks for a great discussion!

Hi Rosie and thank you for your great contribution in this discussionmy friend :) You are so lucky to have been and seen most of the world already, and I couldn't agree more how this affects your life, and broadens the mind, and is making you far more accepting person. I know I will see all of it one day, and am happy that I have seen a lot of it already. But due to responsabilities I havent been able to take a year or two, and go my way without caring about the others. At times I wish that I was more irresponsible, but one is what he/she is, and there is little we can change about it. I do not agree that we live but once however ;)

I want to travel around the world as well. I travel at least once a year but not as often as I'd like. I guess what's stopping me is my job. I can't take too many days off, which sucks. I do intend to travel certain places before I retire. I am not waiting that long.

I would definitely want to travel the world if given the chance. It is really a dilemma for me, because while I'm using young and healthy to do more staff, I lack the financial support to go see the world. Now it is work to support the family, the kids, their education etc. But when I wait till retirement to save enough money and when the kids have grown up and be independent, by then I'll be old and won't have the energies to do as much as compare to now. See my dilemma?

I am glad that I went around the world for a year when I was 20. Plenty of people want to do this but waiting until they retire. This is not a good idea, poor health at this sort of age is a possibility. So many people in their 20s and 30s have a steady career and feel that it would be a bad idea to leave it. Also at this time many people have children and settle down to family life. Then they are no longer interested in traveling. The perfect age to travel around the world is aged 18 to 21. I went to Los Angeles, Hawaii, Fiji, Sydney, Adelaide, Cairns, Darwin and Singapore. From Singapore I visited Indonesia and Malaysia. I had a boyfriend in Australia and we got married. I think the year away from home gave me the love of travel for life, developed my patience and understanding of people. Since then I have been to many other countries. I am glad that travel is one of my favorite hobbies. When I am older I hope to go around the world a second time.

Hi Maximax8, and great for you that you have seen so much of the world :)When one goes to travel while being young they do so on a limited budget and mostly backpacking. And even so, the money could be a problem for the population of most of the world, exceptions made for people with rich parents, so it's easier said than done. The adveturous young people take the possibility to travel and work around, which is the best way according to me, but it takes a very long time too. Traveling is the best of hobbies one could have, and I wish you to be able to do again soon, see the world for the 2nd time :)

Of course I would travel the world that's what I love to do best is to travel. I've been to a lot of places but I still have tons of places to go. When I was working in the 9-5 rat race I would only travel during my vacations. If you make it a point to save up to do it then the money part is not that hard. If it's a priority you will find a way to make it happen.

Hi Dreamy1, and yes, saving is one of the ways, as traveling during your vacations. World wide travel requires much more however :) What to do with your home, the bills, the pets for example? Who can you trust to take care for it? And if you rent it, how do you know when you'll be back, and find everything as you left it? There are many points to take into consideration, and all in all is not that easy, don't you think? :)

millionaires, billionaires and all those rich lucky people get the chance to travel around the world even on a young age....im one of the UNFORTUNATE ones...sigh..i feel stuck right now in my place...i have never ever travelled abroad let alone visit to some beautiful spots in my ownnnn country. its pathetic really, since im not fortunate enough to be born with silver spoon in my mouth. im in my middle 20s and i have lose all hope that ill ever be able to visit and go abroad.. :( life's difficult as of this moment and earning money is soooooo difficult in a very corrupted country and government officials making people living within a much difficult life while they in turn were using people's money to their advantage..... :( its really a sad case..... if the heavens permit it, then i would be one of the happiest person in the world. yes they say there are things money cant buy but hell, like it or not, bad or not, devil or not MONEY IS STILL IMPORTANT IN OUR LIVES.

Hi Eliezl, you really sound bitter and depressed my friend. This could be the biggest hurdle for you in this point of your life. Nomatterwhere you live, no matter what you have you should never permit anything or anyone steel the happiness from your heart, nor the hopes and dreams you have :) Work and become better, strive to be better with each and every dy, see the small things you have that are amking you healthy, beautiful, caring, and loving person :) And give yourself wings, give yourself the possibility to believe you will get what you dream and wish for and SO IT WILL BE! Hugs to you :)

Yes i would love to travel.I'm quite crazy about travelling.Luckily for me i do not have travel sickness or do i get tired easily. One should travel only when you are fit or else you will really not enjoy it.I did go for a far east trip recently.I went with the money given by my family for my slver jubilee. Its the question of affordability that is stopping me.I really wish some day i could travel atleast to the most important countries if not around the world.

For me at the age of 53 I don't think there's enough time left in my life to fully enjoy a trip around the world. I would need many many years to throughouly enjoy a trip like that. Now I could easily enjoy a year long trip to either Egypt to see the Cairo Art Museum and all the natural wonders there including the Nile river. Or a year long safari type trip to Africa. I also would need a good year for a visit to the Philippines as well. At least a year or more to get a good sight of India as well. Too much to see, take in, and learn at various countries. But I would love a trip for a long time to someplace like I have mentioned. I would prefer to stay in a country like I mentioned above this long so I could really learn and liove their culture to get the full experience and feel for those countries is all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, and I understand what you are saying :) Responsabilities could be a stone block on our leg, and before we know it - our age is what might stop us from going out and see the world. The way you'd like to see it however sounds more like an explorer, and not just a visitor. I might be wrong, but haven't you thought about it, that if certain countries are calling so strongly to you, and that you would like to be able to spend years there - might have some unresolved happenings from maybe an other life time ;) ?

My answer is a big YES!!!I really want to go to other places and see its beauty and meets other people. I want to feel the freedom of being free and not like a bird stack in one place. I want to go anywhere to feel life when I have still the strenght to travel. Like you said I do not want to travel when I'm old. But sad to say that dream of mine is will take years to happen. I just finish my study and now I'm working hard to earn plenty of money for that dream or should I say ambition of mine.
