Luck: Is there really such a thing?

I have always been taught that prepartation and timing are far more important than random chance "Luck". However in less than 24 hours I was hit by a drunk driver, had a flat tire from a nail and a tree fell on my car last night. Bad luck or Bad karma?

Karma/Fate/Destiny
Karma - the universal principle of cause and effect, action and reaction.
Fate - Fate is an outcome determined by an outside agency that is directly related to itself.
Participation happens wilfully.
Destiny - the entity is participating in achieving an outcome that is directly related to it.
Are these things one and the same or are they the complete opposite. Would working towards your destiny create karma? Are you really working towards your destiny or is it fate? Can Fate and Karma exist side by side? If they are opposite spectrums, can you have belief in all of them or should it be just one? I would like to think we all work towards our destiny, Life's greater plan (but then wouldn't that be fate?)
Still I can't help thinking of Karma in the things I do.
Confused - lacking order and so difficult to understand and distinguish.

I catch myself saying "Karma?" a lot lately. Yesterday I had caved in and talked to my ex for a while on the phone. Ever since it was one goofy, bad, "unlucky" thing after another. I am beginning to believe that life is a reflection of what you put into it.
