I am wondering if anyone here in the great wide world of Mylot sells anything on Ebay. I have been considering opening an Ebay account and trying to sell of few things just to try it out. I have heard of so many strange things selling on Ebay that I have also considered listing som odd items just to see if anyone would buy them, for example, a shoebox fill of pine cones. If you sell things on Ebay please tell me what you sell and how well you do. Also, is it hard? Are there any costs associtated with haveing and Ebay account and selling one Ebay? I would also like to know the oddest thing that you have ever sold or bought over Ebay.

I sell all kinds of things on Ebay, my kids clothes, CD's, DVD's, I do some mystery auctions as well. There are fees related to listing your items and then another fee if you item actually sells. So to me it is kinda hard to make money unless you have lots of items that sell for alot of money =) The weirdest thing that I would say I have bought is Box Tops, from General Mills. My daughters school has contests for what class can get the most box tops, last year I bough like 250 and this year I just bought 250 for $28!!! How crazy is that?? I think it is totally crazy, but I want my daughters class to win, last year it was for a pizza party (I know I could have bought all the pizza myself with the money I spent). It is just fun to me =)

There are several different types of mysteries, mosty they are cash auctions. Where you are actually bidding on an envelope with a chance of winning money. There are usually so many envelopes and you get to pick what envelope number you want (with some sellers-some pick for you) and then they send the money to your PayPal account. I do those, they are lots of fun, the excitement of what the buyer is going to win is super fun for me!! Others are mystery boxes where the seller puts different items in the box with each new bid and then mail it off to you, they usually list the type os thing added to the box (bath & body items, jewlery, DVD's, CD's, stuff like that) some are just pink items for the ladies =)

I tell u Nykkee, it would be a great thing to do, but what to sell?? this is the first question arrising my mind. I have heard that mostly everything gets sold on Ebay, try to search out for some really nice product that's easily sold, like my aunt brought nice hand crafts from a place where we get such craft works at really cheap price and those when on Ebay made her get almost double the profit she pooled in to buy them. There isn't any cost to sell something on Ebay but it's your responsibility for shipping and handling carefully on prescribed date. These charges are again paid by buyer who wants to go for ur product. The oddest thing ever sold on Ebay until my knowledge was Toilet cover. It is really simple, try to sell something which you feel is trash at ur place, I got to sell some novels brought long back. You would know the process with this and later start business. All The Best.

Thanks for the advice. The things that I was thinking about selling were handmae earrings and other crafts. I wa also think about listing some off items like a box of toad stools just to see what would happen.

Ebay is a great place to sell unwanted items. Yes you have fees left right and center, small fees. but the satisfaction of selling and making a bit of extra money is great. The best selling items I have noticed are jewelry and clothes. Kids clothes sell really quickly. If you list an item and it doesnt sell on the first listing, then you get a listing fee credit, that if it sells the second time you only pay the listing fee once. And also dont open an ebay shop until you are well established and making a lot of money. your items dont show up in searches if a buyer is looking for something in particular. I had a shop open in ebay and it done very badly, as soon as I closed the shop and just listed normally, my stuff flew out.

I have sold a few things on Ebay. I tried to narrow down my shoe collection and sold 4 pairs of shoes. I made ok money on them, not what i paid but that is to be expected with most things. I also just sold a broken mobile phone for a surprising amount of money! People must believe they can fix it! There are costs involved with selling but i see them as perfectly reasonable, just a couple of pounds here and there. One piece of advice i do have though is, if you have something that you want to sell but you don't want to part with it for less than a certain amount, you van put a reserve price on it. Then it won't go for less than you want it to. Good luck!!

Well I don't really have any personal items that i want to sell, I was mostly thinking of making things that I could sell. I have also checked out a few sites that will put your designs on stuff, like cafepress.com, but I am worried about loseing the rights to my designs and getting ripped off.

Nykkee, I sell on ebay here and there and have been very sucessful with it. Most things I list sell. I try to stay away from clothes/shoes/make up/jewelry etc. I find these categories are touchy at what sells or not. Yes there are fees but you can find that on the website. I suggest taking a tourorial. The main thing is to not skimp on what you sell. If you try to pass along an item that is not in real good condtion but state it is then when the buyer receives it and find that it is a piece of junk they will be very made, require a refund and give you negative feedback. Soem things I have sold are vintage truck parts, truck bed, boat, vintage clock, dishes and the list goes on. I buy quite a bit too. We buy for our electrical company, golf and other sports equipemnt/accesories, toys, clothes and such. It does take time to create an auction, something catchy is nice, then you have to keep track of the auction for its duration, answer all questions that come through, package the item up (very well might I add) to ship, then wait for the buyer to receive the item in satifactory condition. So yes it is profitable, but it also takes work to make good money. You are not going to spend just a few hours a week and make $500.00. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information. It is kind of sounding like it may not be for me. I only have dialup internet becuase I live in the country and I don't think I would be able to keep up with the comments and checking on the auction and stuff. Most of my internet time goes to Mylot right now and I also have a few other semi-online things that I am trying to get going, that with my house work and my animals and my husband I don't really have the time for it on a daily basis. Maybe I will just save up what I make and go to craft shows once or twice a year....or whenever they are....there are always flea markets too.

I attended a 3 day seminar recently and two of the speakers were making a lot of money on e-bay. They had even divised programes for sale for us to buy so we too could make a lot of money. One guy even showed how he was making profits from selling real estate. He also showed us proof of how his wife had sold 6 half used lipsticks for $35 or something astounding. I think it is possible fot make money from e-bay, I just think you have to find the knack to it. When you do, let us know

IMO no wonder they were making a lot of money...selling the program to show you how to make money. Bet they laugh to the bank after each seminar. I would not waist my time, ebay has all of that on their site for free. It really depends on how much time you want to invest.

I have been thinking the same thing and I would love to sell on ebay too. I am doing research but I don't think it's very easy. You need to have a unique product that people want because of the strong competition out there, so I think trial and error is basically the key. Besides, you need to figure out clearly the cost of selling on ebay and make sure your profile would cover the cost and all the fees ebay's charging. I think I will have a bit more time to think more deeply on the ebay stuff.

I've been selling on Ebay off and on for the last year or so. The fees have really gone up this year which makes it harder, but if you're a new seller they usually have a promotion where you get your first 5 lisitngs free (check before listing). I sell stuff I no longer need like clothes that are still in like new condition and other odds and ends. I don't think I've ever sold anything odd. If you do let us know how it goes.

Yeah, but sometimes it's not successful, and you foot the posting fee... Facebook is also good if you're looking to sell stuff... At least, it's great for University students who mostly live in a cluster around campus :)
