Hi. I just got invited to be a mystery shopper through the postal mail service. Has anyone else ever done this before? Can you tell me exactly how it works? Can you also tell me your experiences with it? I have confirmed through my bank and theirs and everything seems to be legit. I need someone to explain to me in detail their experiences with it. I appreciate it. Do you earn a weekly income with them? Is it a good earning potential from being invited from one company?

Hello, Matte5, I would like to know the company´s name you work for - I live in Northern Sweden and I thought there were not so many companies here that pay for shopping.
Please send me information about this job. I really need a job that pays. Please send a private message with the link.

Hi there. I just received my invitation in the mail and I have to go deposit the check they sent me today. This is the only company that has invited me so far. Do they send you assignments to do weekly? My paperwork says they do but I am not sure if that is how they work or not. I am to go shop at Walmart, and the Gap store. I guess they will tell me what to buy there. I'm not sure. I also have to western union money and send a money gram transfer.

I just have a question for you.... did you receive a check in the mail? along with a small packet telling you about stores like walkmart and jcpenny?? my mother just did that a few weeks ago. she checked everything out first.. researched there bank, website, phone call etc etc and everything seemed liget.. then she went ahead and foillowed the mans directions that he gave her on the phone.. he told her to call him when she deposted the check. she deposited it, called him and then he told her to send som much to such a such a place via money gram & as soon as that reached the person he would give her further instructions.. meanwhile she was to use the deposited money for shopping at certain stores... well her being a procrasntentor.. she didnt send the money via money gram.. almost 10 days later she went to do it and before she did she realized her bank account was frozen she went to the bank to find out why and it turns out she deposited a contefeit check. she gave the bank all the info that she needed to and htey lifted the reezre on her account... good thing she waited to take money and send it to them because if she did it would have been her own perosnl money that she would have been usiing and the scam would have worked...
id check stricitly with your bank not to see if the bank the check is written on is legit , but to see if the check itslef at first is legit..
watch out for scams.. they are everywhere..!! please be careful!

Hi. I checked with the bank that the check was written from and I have also checked with my bank too. I also called the company and went to the company website. I have to go to my bank this morning and let them see the check and they will hold onto it for 5 days to see if it clears. If it does not clear, then I won't do anything with the mystery shopping thing. The bank said I won't be in trouble for it as long as I don't try to spend any of that money until it clears the bank. I have heard of scams also but some people say there are legit ones also. I am going to my bak and they will check the check for me this morning and let me know if it is ok. I told my bank I want to be careful and do not want to be in any kind of trouble with it. Thanks for the warning too. I know there are many scams out there.

Hello, I can tell you first hand how they are for I just went through it. At first in april I got an invitation and was hesitant for there was a check enclosed. After a while, I called the number and they had cancelled the check for they thought it got stolen. So they reissued me anther. Both were over 3000 mind you. My brothers girlfriend did research for me on the company and bank, both are legit, really exist. So, I went ahead and deposited the check. Well, it cleared right away and I called the number they supplied when they sent the check to tell it cleared. The man on the other end told me to send all but 200 money gram to a woman in NY and gave me her name and address. Well, I didn't make it to the bank before it closed and had to wait til the following Monday. I tried to use my bank card, checks, et. over the weekend and was denied.I called the bank that Monday and had to talk to loss and prevention for they had frozen my account due to a counterfeit check I had deposited,(the one the secret shopper sent me)I told them I had the original letter from them as well as the first check. I had to bring it right to my bank for I was looking at counterfeit charges as well as if I did send the money like I was told, it would of been out of my own money!!!!!Loss and prevention is taking care of it now, and I have my account back minus a small fee for the counterfeit check,,DO NOT DO IT FOR THE LOSS AND PREVENTION SAID THAT ALOT OF THE SECRET SHOPPERS AND OTHER INTERNET HOME BUSINESSES ARE SCAMS TO GET YOUR MONEY..I AM VERY THANKFUL IT WAS TOO LATE TO GET TO THE BANK THAT FRIDAY OR I WOULD OF BEEN OUT OF SOME MONEY AND LOOKING AT COUNTERFEIT CHARGES...Be careful, even if you do research...if something seems too good to be true, it usually is...take it from someone who experienced it...

Hi. I looked into it some more and found out that they are a pure scam. I ripped the check up. I wrote the website to find out if they were legit and they told me that they never invite people through regular postal mail. they send email invites only. I called numbers, banks and all and it all sounded legit until then. I knew it was too fishy. I'm glad you didn't get into alot of trouble too. These scammers are getting rich at others expense.

You need to be really careful. A lot of these are scams. I think the only legitimate ones are ones where they have an actual office building, you can pull up profiles of them on the Better Business Bureau or Dunn and Bradstreet. It's pretty easy to start a scam.
don't give them ANY MONEY. They should be paying you. Make sure you start with something you can afford and would want to do anyhow.
I have done this for my bank, as well as another organization and I have gotten paid, or reimbursed for what I did. They should send you materials BEFORE you go, so you are aware of what you need to pay attention to. You shouldn't have to pay for anything you do for them, and it should all be optional. You can sign up for the assignments you want and await instructions.
So far, aside from my bank, the other company I went through had an assignment for me maybe once a quarter. i could not live off this. I moved, and the company is not available where I am now, and I haven't found a legitimate one yet.

Hi. This company sent me a check to go do the shopping with and they also included $500.00 in the check for my pay. I have to go to Walmart and spend $50.00 and then go to the Gap and spend $40.00, then I have to send the company a money gram and a western union check and I keep the rest of the money. I will check it out through my bank to make sure they are fine first before I do anything with it. They gave me all the money upfront in the check along with the details of where to shop and go. I won't have to spend a dime but I am going to find out for sure if they are legit first!!!

I have no idea how it all works in the United States but yes I have done mystery shopping here in Canada. The very first time I did it I had to first watch a VHS tape on some tips in other words do's and don'ts. You get paid by the job. You need a computer and a car. They tell you where they want you to go and you have the choice of whether or not you want to do it. So lets say they tell you they need someone to mystery shop Wal Mart and Sears. You may want them both if so you let them know and you will have to tell them what day you plan to do it. They always give you about a week to 10 days and you pick the day. You will also be told what they are going to pay for the job to be done. You go to the store and you need to really watch carefully regarding things like is the store neet, are the shelves properly stocked, are the specials posted, are the staff friendly, do the staff have their name tags on, did you get good customer service, did someone great you and ask if they could help you. These are some of the questions they ask on the forms you'll need to fill in later. While in the store you will need to buy something for at least one dollar and you safe your reciept, this you will need to send in before you get paid. I had a shop to do in the next town down to Home hardware. I took it. They said it would pay 99.00. Well by time I went there at the pice of gas 5.50 a gallon I didn't really make anything. I also did some here in town and that wasn't so bad buy it paid way less and I was able to get around better than. It's been years since I did it but I can tell you there was a lot of book work with it. Good luck and let me know how you do. Take care

I did this years ago. No money up front, I just sent in the info and was assigned to stores.
I never had any problem with the company I worked for.
I understand now that there is a registration fee. Not sure for sure though.
It was fun and the money was nice.

Hi. I never knew how it all worked either until they sent me this invitation through my postal mail. I know some places charge you a fee to join also but this was free for a limited few, is what is says. I am a bit leary of it though because I am not sure if they are legit. I'm not sure if I am even going to go to my bank to find out because they sent me a check for $4997.00 to work with and I am to keep $500.00 of it for my training and pay. It just sounds too good to be true. May be a true SCAM.

I have seen a lot of these programs on the net but always hesitate due to the cost - it is far too high in most cases.
I hope to find a legitimate program that really works even in Northern Europe.

Although there are legitimate mystery/secret shopping jobs, there currently is a huge mystery/secret shopping jobs scam. A Canadian company calling itself Shopping Jobs Here Agency is issuing identical "official check" (from Citizens BAnk of Washington County, Sanderville, GA) to several individuals allover the USA. I also received the "official check" with jubilation; but fortunately for me, the check (made in the amount of $4982.00) had my last name misspelled, resulting in check kickback by my bank. See copy of my identical check at legit Citizens Bank of Washington County site - http://www.cbwc.com/scam_notice2.htm
Oh, the check arrived with materials and instructions stating job preformance and requirements, making the deal appear legit. I even spoke with representatives of the company, who all sounded very professional and even advised that I wait for "official check" to be cleared before calling back for confirmed job assignments. Well, I guess when it is too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true!
Because this company is outside the USA, Citizens Bank of Washington County, Sanderville, GA, cannot do a thing! US victims will be simply out-of-luck. Beware! And, do not forget to help take a bite out of crime!

Hello there. Thanks alot for the heads up. This check is out of Ohio. I called that bank and the my bank and I have to also go to my bank this morning for them to check it and wait for 5 days also to see if it clears. I also spoke with the company who sent this to me also. It sounded legit to me too but you can never be too sure. My bank said if it doesn't clear, then it will not affect me since they wrote the check. This check is wrote out for $4997.00. The check I have and the one you shown me for proof look different from each other. I wish I could show it to you so you could see it. This just may be a scam and I am going to make sure first. The company only sent me one copy of the form I have to fill out and they told me to make 3 more copies for the other companies I am to be evealuating and shopping at. This companies address is
suite 1200
575 ARGUS RD.
OAKVILLE ON 3J#
I just went to the website provided though and their address is different than what is listed at the bottom of my paperwork. This is what i found at the website.
Varsityplaza LLC
PO BOX 1603
Ashburn, VA 20146-1603
I will definitely make sure this company is legit before I do anything with them. Thanks.

I got one invitation through the internet, but I guess it was not exactly honest. No one has asked me to be one through the internet. I did get invitations to deliver fliers, to take a course to become, etc. I guess they expect you to go to the department store and apply. There are lots of help wanted either full time or part time, and for your references, but as I wrote, you see them on the store window itself and then you have to go home, type out your references and your experiences and then come back.

I am registered with like 10 different companies and do some shops every now and then, but not as often as I would like =) Most of the shops in my area are for banks or local college cafeterias =) Fun fun...I just don't get very many opportunities. And some places you can only go there one every year. So for me it isn't a good way to make lots of money. Maybe if you live in a bigger city it would work better for you. You have to remember lots of details and names, which isn't too bad. And sometimes you have to spend a certain amount of time in a store and try on shoes, use the dressing room, stuff like that.

I have never heard of them, it sounds like a scam to me. I guess just wait and see if the check is good. I never get paid anything up front, only after I complete all the paperwork and submit a proof of shop, so they know that I actually went to the store/bank/whatever. I would be careful!!

Hello stephcjh,
I signed up for Shadow Shopper but as usual, it is only for US citizen. I receive an invitation to be a mystery shopper at Salt Lake City many times, which they send to my e-mail but since I am non US citizen, I couldn't proceed at all. I am not sure how it works but I think it might benefit you if you are looking for additional income.

I have experience with it and I have not been scammed yet. I signed up for a company that marciascott mentioned, but I never paid the upgrade. The companies can still contact you if you don't pay. 5 companies have now contacted me.
You have to write a lengthy report after you do your shop. The company will tell you exactly what you need to look for.
I do not make a weekly income, I do them when I want and when the price is right.
I have 4 legit mystery shop companies listed on my blog if you are interested. I need to update it with my most recent one.
Good luck!

Hi. I will have to check your blog out again. No problem. This comapny din't ask me for any money. they sent me a check to cash in advance to shop with and pay me. What confused me though is that they were to pay me $500.00 of it and I was to shop with $90.00 of it and then send the rest of it back to them via money money gram and a western union wire transfer. I knew it sounded too good to be true. The check was for $4997.00.

Once I tried this and I signed up and was sent a list of things to buy. In addition to being reimbursed for the product, I was promised the product and pay for my time. I went I shopped I answered long and lenthy survey, and I sent it back, I did it for the 12 products they gave me to buy. At the end of this I recieved not one red cent, I did keep the product because I paid for it. I think that job is a scam.

do not do it it is a scam shadow shoppers is doing that in every state and the police are after them for fraud . they send you a phoney cashiers check for three thousand dollars you are to deposit at once then in the next few hours you are to take a thousand dollars out to mail toa friend via walmatrs money wire s service to check on their reliability ha. okay now take out two hundred to pay yourself okay now comes the bad news the check is bogus so if you manage to get it deposited and cashed all that you do with it bounces and you have to ppay all this stuff out of your own pocket. totally a scam. shadow shopper is wanted all over the usa for scamming big time.it is a scam run from it. my bank told me at once when theylooked at the check that it was bogus and that these had been flooding all the banks and to take it to my postmaster or to the police.
