Help! I've been invited to a wedding!

We just received a wedding invitation for the daughter of a very good friend. We have only met the bride once before and since it was for her uncle's funeral, I'm sure she won't remember us, but we will go as her mother is a long time friend. The problem is, what kind of wedding gift do you get for someone you barely know?

Are they registered? You could ask her mother what she needs. A gift card is a good idea too. That's been my gift of choice for years now. Usually for weddings I give a nice picture frame if I don't know them too well. Maybe they'd like a nice frame to put their wedding pictures in. You could also get a prepaid credit card so they're not restricted to a particular store. A lot of people prefer cash anyway.

When my daughter got married, her photographer suggested a gift registry there. They helped pay for their pictures and got some nice frames. That was a new option for me.

Her mom said they still need a refrigerator so I could find out which store she found it at or just give her cash to put towards it. I hadn't thought about picture frames, but I'm sure they'll need those too. :)

I've gone the picture frame route, myself...

You check out where they are registered, and pick something off of their list. That is the easy way. Or a gift card, as that fits all sizes, and is easily wrapped. It is good of you to go, for her mother's sake.

I know they still need a refrigerator, but her mom didn't mention anything else they might need. I wouldn't want to wrap that, lol, but cash can easily be applied to that or whatever else might be needed. :)

A gift card is always great like to a home improvement store if the are or have recently bought a new home. Also you can get the new gift cards that work like a visa, so they can buy whatever they need to start a new home together. I remember when we first got married someone just gave us a 100 dollar bill to put towards our honeymoon. Which back then was more than it is today, but we were so thankful cause we did not have alot of money and it helped pay for a nice honeymoon dinner.

That's true. We got a little cash for our wedding so it was nice to have some extra money for incidentals during the honeymoon. I understand they need a refrigerator so a gift card would probably work too. :)

A photo frame for one of their wedding pictures would be a good idea. If not that, you can't go wrong with a gift certificate, or even cash. Newlyweds are almost always short on cash! Good luck at the wedding.

This is so true. Cash can provide whatever they still need after all is said and done. :)

we get invited to a lot of weddings on account that my hubby does the sound for our church (he is the guy that does the sound system) we generally buy gift certificates and that seems to be the best for people you dont really know.

Give her money. A newly wed couple can always use the money. It is very appropriate when you don't know what they need.

I guess that's where gift registries come in handy... There's always cash and gift certificates, too, which may seem impersonal, but you don't have a personal connection with the "happy couple" anyway. Good luck in deciding.
