Methadone - Does it Work For You?

Hi there - I recently started taking methadone for severe chronic pain (which I used to take oxycodone for - a pretty high dose of it). I'm being gradually increased on my dose of methadone, but the problem is, I'm having a really, really bad flare of my rheumatoid arthritis right now. The methadone that I am taking is not working at all. I'm on forty mg's per day. What is YOUR experience with this medication? Is it effective for your chronic pain? What would you do if you were in my shoes - my Doctor seems to think that if he continually increases my dose over time that eventually I'll start to feel better. I haven't started to feel better at all. HELP!

Heve you considered maybe to go with alternative medicine treatment? Have you considered homeopathy? My grandmother has exact same health problem as you do, she could not see improvements from any medication that doctors prescribed to her. Than she read an article in a magazine about one female homeopathy doctor, she graduated in london. So she somehow got her number, and she's been on homeopathy treatment since. She does not have any pains now, her pains decreased month by month, she is doing good right now, considering that she is 81 yo. You are much younger so maybe your treatment will be even better. Maybe you'll lose your pains in couple of weeks. It's worth to try. P.S. homeopathic treatment can be combined with the medication your current doctor is prescribing to you.

Hi...I have more problems than just rheumatoid arthritis. And mine is very severe. I've tried alternative and homeopathic medicine, and it only made things worse. I need to stick with traditional RA therapies, as well as the newer treatments and meds, because they've helped me the most. I can't afford alternative medicine being disabled. So I'm basically out of luck!

I have taken methadone several times, not for pain. But just for recreational use. I dont knoe if this happens to everyone but one thing i didnt like about it is it was hard to sleep the second or third day on it. One thing i liked about it was how long it lasted. I've had different effects the higher dosage i took. One time it lasted two full days, and i was still a little out of it the third day
